What is causing this Issue?
Resolve the issue of a workstation lagging upon login (30-45 seconds), and both systems are on Windows 7. The following steps will document the fix, which is a process of opening TCP Ports 84 and 7594 on the Brain and all workstations exhibiting the issue.
- Log out of the HTUser profile and log into the Administrator profile on the POS system.
- Click Start and search for Windows Firewall; select the Windows Firewall with Advanced Security program from the results list.
- Once open, double-click Inbound Rules in the top left corner of the window.
- From the toolbar at the top, click on Action – New Rule to open the New Information Rule Wizard.
- Follow the steps of the wizard enabling the following settings:
- Rule Type: Port
- Protocol and Ports: Specific Local Ports: 84, 7594
- Action: Allow the Connection
- Profile: Domain, Private, Public all Checked
- Name: LH4 In
- Once this is completed, complete steps 3 through 5 again, except for Outbound Rules which will instead be named LH4 Out.
- With both rules created on the Brain, continue to any workstation exhibiting the issue and open the same ports in exactly the same way.
- Once completed, restart the workstation and ensure it will now log in with no delay.
Firewall Exceptions Fix (Windows XP)
- Log off the HTUser profile, then log in to Administrator.
- A lot of XP machines do not have HTUser/Administrator (split image) setup, so you may already be in Administrator.
- If this is the case, there is no need for alarm. You are on an older image. Proceed with the remainder of the steps outlined below.
- Choose Start → Control Panel.
- Click Windows Firewall.
- Click the Exceptions tab at the top.
- Choose Add Port at the bottom:
- Enter “LH4” for the name.
- Enter “7594” for the Port.
- Ensure “TCP” is selected.
- Press OK to add the exceptions.
- Repeat the Add Port process for Port 84.
- Enter “LH4” for the name.
- Enter “84” for the Port.
- Ensure “TCP” is selected.
- Press OK to add the exceptions.
- If you receive an error that the port already exists, select Cancel. This means that Port 84 is already allowed and does not need to be added again.
- Press OK to save the Firewall Exceptions.
- Repeat this on all terminals/workstations, but start with the Brain.
- Restart the Hospitality software and test again.
