Description: Learn how to use the Clone Transaction feature in Lighthouse Business Manager (LBM) to create new transactions from existing ones without re-entering card details, and understand how card tokens enable secure transaction processing.
Overview
The Clone Transaction feature allows users to quickly create a new transaction based on an existing one. This is especially useful for adding charges, tips, or fees without manually entering card information again.
Instead of storing or transmitting actual card numbers, Lighthouse Business Manager (LBM) uses card tokens, unique secure identifiers that replace sensitive card information. Cloning a transaction automatically uses this token, so you never need to handle the real card number directly.
Users can also clone Voided Sale transactions to create a new transaction using the original card token, with the ability to adjust select attributes such as the transaction amount.
Note: Unmasked credit cards are not supported in LBM.
Clone a Transaction
- Log in to LBM.
- Select Transactions from the left navigation menu.
- Locate the original transaction for the credit card you want to charge.
- Open the transaction details page.
- Select the Clone Transaction button.
- Enter the primary amount or tip/fee you wish to add.
- Verify that all customer details are accurate.
- Add notes if needed.
- Select Submit to process the cloned transaction.
- Optionally, share a receipt of this charge via email.
Clone a Voided Transaction
LBM users can clone Voided Sale transactions to create a new charge without re-entering card details quickly.
- The new transaction uses the original card token from the voided sale.
- You can adjust specific attributes, such as the transaction amount, before submitting.
Where to Find a Card Token
If you need to locate a card token manually, for example, to use with the Virtual Terminal, you can find it within the transaction details:
- Go to Transactions > All Transactions.
- Select the transaction you want to review.
- Scroll down to the Customer section, where the Card Token is displayed in place of the full card number.
Using a Card Token in the Virtual Terminal
For cases where cloning isn't available, you can manually enter a card token in the Virtual Terminal to process a new transaction.
Note: Access to the Virtual Terminal is based on your user permission levels, set by your LBM admin. If you don't see the + button, contact your admin for assistance.
- On the All Transactions page, select the blue "+" (plus) button in the top right corner to open the Virtual Terminal.
- Fill in all required transaction details.
- In the Card Number / Token field, enter the card token you retrieved.
- Enter the amount and any tip (if applicable).
- Review all details for accuracy.
- Select Submit.
