Description: Set up a new location (MID) to demo all of the features of the Shift4 Dine EcoSystem.
Create a Menu
In the Shift4 Dine Customer Hub, select Shift4 Dine > Menu > Items. Create a menu (if you did not request the product demo menu). Start by creating departments, then items, modifiers, and modifier sets.
For more information on building a menu, please refer to the KB and/or Shift4 Academy.
Edit Employees
On the Customer Hub, navigate to Employee Management > Employees (or Workforce Management > Employees).
Edit Employee Permissions and add a Job to each employee.
Change PINs for employees (optional).
Example set of permissions and the default PINs:

Note: Owner/Manager can be set with All Permissions for demo purposes. The Owner/Manager PIN default is 1111.
Add Table Layout
A Table Layout is necessary for Table Service ordering and Reservations.
Navigate to Shift4 Dine > Table Layout.
Create at least one Table Section.
Add/edit tables.
Set the capacity for each table.
Add/Edit Order Types
Navigate to Shift4 Dine > Menu > Order Types.
Edit Order Types.
Link table layout to Dine In order type.
Navigate back to Employee Management > Employees > Jobs (or Workforce Management > Employees > Jobs).
Edit the Server Job and set the default order type to "Dine In." This will ensure a new server ticket opens the table layout.
Workstation Ticket & Course Settings
On the Workstation, log in as a manager and navigate to Manager > Settings > Tickets.
Configure your location’s settings to your liking. For example, the configuration below allows the ticket to be sorted by course and automatically skips the print dialogue. Select Save to enable your changes.
To set up coursing (optional), navigate to Manager > Settings > Menu > Coursing.
Create and customize your course list and attach entire departments or specific items to each course.
Set a course to hold items automatically (optional).
Set up Reservations (Optional)
In the Customer Hub, navigate to Shift4 Dine > Reservations > Reservation Blocks.
Edit reservation blocks for each day and day part.
Set the number of available tables per seating capacity (this is tied to your table layout).
On the Customer Hub, navigate to Reservations > Settings.
Edit maximum party size and turnaround times (optional).
Copy and bookmark your Online Reservation Link.
Setup Loyalty
In the Customer Hub, navigate to Shift4 Dine > Loyalty > Programs.
Add a Loyalty Program.
Add a Loyalty discount and link to your program.
Set up Online Ordering
In the Customer Hub, navigate to Marketplace > Online Ordering.
Install the Online Ordering Integration if not already installed. You may have to wait a few hours for the orange “payments not set up” banner to disappear after installing.
Add the Restaurant contact info and Timezone.
Edit Order Settings and input Prep Time, Order types accepted, and the Future Orders threshold.
Configure & Publish Online Menu
In the Customer Hub, navigate to Marketplace > Menu Manager.
Select Import from POS to import your menu items.
Navigate to Menu Manager > Schedules. Create and Edit Schedules. Add items to each schedule.
Navigate back to Menu Manager > Menu. Edit item descriptions, online price, and upload images (optional).
When done, select Publish menu in the top right.
Activate Online Ordering & QR Ordering
Navigate back to Marketplace > Online Ordering > Takeout/Delivery. The "Enable Takeout/Delivery" button should now be available.
Edit Menu URL (optional), and save. Copy the online ordering link and save it to your browser bookmarks.
Navigate to Online Ordering > QR Ordering > Enable QR Ordering.
Copy and bookmark the QR ordering link (optional).
Create QR Ordering Table Tents and generate a PDF. Download and save to your computer or print (optional).
Your location is now ready for demos!
