Description: Customize how your KDS (Kitchen Display System) organizes items and modifiers to make orders easier to read and manage.
Key Settings
Two settings control how items are grouped on the KDS, and there is a "Group" action button that allows the user to toggle between views as needed.
- Kitchen Print Grouping (POS Terminal)
Controls how items are grouped when sent from the POS to the KDS. Options include:- By course
- By department
- By revenue class
- By seat
- By do not group
- Group Same Items (KDS Device)
Determines how items and modifiers behave when using the “Group” action button. - "Group" Action Button (KDS Home Screen)
- Located at the bottom of the toolbar on the KDS home screen
- Can be toggled on/off during service
- Filters tickets according to the grouping preferences set above, giving kitchen staff a focused view
Configure Kitchen Print Grouping
- On the SkyTab POS terminal, navigate to Manager > Settings > Hardware > Printers/KDS.
- Select your KDS from the left menu.
- Use the Group By drop-down menu to select grouping by Course, Department, Revenue Class, Seat, or No Grouping.
- Select Ok, then Save.
Configure Group Same Items
- On the KDS, tap the gear icon (bottom left) to open Settings.
- Under the Layout section, locate Group Same Items.
- Configure the following:
- Keep Original Grouping:
- Determines whether items grouped by the POS (e.g., by seat) remain grouped when using the KDS Group button.
- Default: Off
- Grouping Level:
- Choose whether items match Items and Modifiers Exactly or Items Only.
- Default: Items and Modifiers Match Exactly
- Keep Original Grouping:
- Tap Done to save.
Using the Group Action
- From the KDS home screen, tap Group on the bottom toolbar. The button illuminates in blue when active.
- Tickets will group according to the settings configured in Kitchen Print Grouping settings.
For example, if there are four (4) different orders of tater tots on one ticket, grouping them will show "4 Tater Tots".
