Description: Learn how to configure the barcode scanner for menu items, kitchen tickets, and guest receipts in SkyTab POS.
Note: If you haven’t yet connected your barcode scanner to the POS terminal, install and connect it first before configuring it in the POS system.
Configure the Barcode Scanner
- On SkyTab POS, navigate to Manager > Settings > Menu > Items > Advanced.
- Select the item you want to update.
- Add the Item UPC by scanning it or entering it manually.
- Select Save to apply the UPC to the selected menu item.
Configure the Barcode Scanner for Kitchen Tickets
- On SkyTab POS, navigate to Manager > Settings > Hardware > Printers/KDS.
- Select the Ticket printer.
- On the Advanced tab, select Print Barcodes on Kitchen Slips to enable barcode printing.
Note: If you use multiple ticket printers, make sure to enable this feature on each printer you want it to work with. - Select Save to commit the changes.
Configure the Barcode Scanner for Guest Receipts
- On SkyTab POS, navigate to Manager > Settings > Hardware > Printers/KDS.
- Select the Receipt printer.
- On the General tab, select Print barcode to enable barcode printing on receipts.
Note: If you use multiple receipt printers, make sure to enable this feature on each printer you want it to work with. - Select Save to commit the changes.
Usage
Printed guest checks now have a barcode printed at the bottom. Customers can present the guest check to the server, and you can scan it to open the ticket.
Note: This only works with open tickets. Completed tickets do not pull up on a scan.
Scan Gift Card QR Codes
If your location uses a scanner, you will now be able to scan a Gift Card QR code to enter the card number.
This function should work in the following places:
- Order Entry > Check Balance
- Order Entry > Load Gift Card
- Payment > Gift Card
- Payment > Gift Card > Check Balance
