Description: Learn how to configure item inventory tracking for Shift4 Dine.
Set Up Item Inventory Tracking on the Workstation or Tablet for Shift4 Dine
- Navigate to Manager > Settings > Items > Tracking.
- Select the item.
- Enter the Item count in the Quantity of Hand field.
- Adjust item inventory tracking configuration:

Allow ordering if quantity is zero - when enabled, allows the item to be ordered if it is out of stock. If disabled, the item button will be grayed out on the menu screen.

Low Stock Indicator - when enabled, displays a caution symbol at the top left corner of the item button in the menu screen.

Display Item Quantity on Login Screen - When enabled, displays item quantity on the Workstation login screen, in the Item Tracking section.

Allow ordering if quantity is zero - when enabled, allows the item to be ordered if it is out of stock. If disabled, the item button will be grayed out on the menu screen.
- Tap Save.
Set Up Items to Display as Sold Out on Workstation or Tablet
- Navigate to Manager > Settings > Items > Tracking.
- Select the item.
- Slide the toggle off (gray) for Allow Ordering if Quantity is Zero. This will show the item as "Sold Out" on Shift4 Dine devices (Workstation, Tablet) or Shift4 Duo.
- Tap Save.
Set Up Items to Display as Almost Sold Out on the Workstation or Tablet
- Navigate to Manager > Settings > Items > Tracking.
- Select the item.
- Slide the toggle on (blue) for Low Stock Indicator and enter an amount in the Alert at Amount field. This will show the item as "Almost Sold Out" on Shift4 Dine devices (Workstation, Tablet) or Shift4 Duo.
Set Up Item Inventory Tracking on the Shift4 Dine Customer Hub
- Navigate to the Customer Hub and then select Shift4 Dine.
- From the top menu, select the Items section.
- Select the desired item from the item list by pressing on it.
- In the Edit Item section, scroll down to the Tracking section and enter the item Quantity on Hand.
- Adjust item inventory tracking configuration:
- Display Item Quantity on Login Screen - When enabled, displays item quantity on the Workstation login screen, in the Item Tracking section.
- Low Stock Indicator - when enabled, displays a caution symbol at the top left corner of the item button in the menu screen.

- Navigate to the Customer Hub and then select Shift4 Dine.

- Select the desired item from the item list by pressing on it.
- In the Edit Item section, scroll down to the Tracking section and enter the item Quantity on Hand.
- Additionally in the Tracking section disable Allow Ordering If Quantity Is Zero toggle.
- Press the blue Save button at the bottom right corner to confirm the changes.
Set Up Items to Display as Almost Sold Out on the Shift4 Dine Customer Hub
- Navigate to the Customer Hub and then select Shift4 Dine.
- From the top menu select the Items section.
- Select the desired item from the item list by pressing on it.
- Scroll down to to the Tracking section and enable the Low Stock Indicator toggle.
- Additionally in the Tracking section disable enter the desired Alert Quantity.
- Press the blue Save button at the bottom right corner to confirm the changes.
Set Up Items to Display as Sold Out on Shift4 Duo
Shift4 Duo (A800 or A930) device is not capable of configuring item tracking settings on the Shift4 Duo itself. Item Tracking configuration has to be done on the Workstation, Tablet (M8), or Shift4 Dine Customer Hub.
