Description: Learn about the use of card tokens and where to locate them in Lighthouse Business Management (LBM).
A card token is a unique identifier that replaces sensitive card information, such as the full card number. Instead of storing or transmitting the actual card number, Lighthouse Business Management (LBM) uses a token as a secure string of characters to represent it.
Note: Unmasked credit cards are not supported in LBM.
- Enhanced Security: This process, known as tokenization, significantly enhances security. It means the actual card number is not exposed during transactions within LBM, or if data is compromised, protecting both you and your customers.
- Unique Reference: Each token is unique to a specific card, allowing you to reference it for future transactions or customer service inquiries without handling sensitive card details directly.
Where to Find Card Tokens in LBM
You can easily locate the Card Token associated with a specific transaction by following these steps:
- Go to Transactions > All Transactions.
- Select the transaction you want to review.
- Scroll down to the Customer section, where you’ll find the Card Token displayed instead of the full card number for the card used in that particular transaction.
How to Use Card Tokens in LBM
Card tokens are designed to be used in place of the actual card number to submit new transactions within LBM and at your integrated payment device for the MID, offering a secure way to process payments or reference past transactions.
The Virtual Terminal in LBM allows you to process new transactions manually using a card token.
Steps to Create a New Transaction with a Card Token using the Virtual Terminal:
- On the All Transactions page, select the blue + button in the top right corner to open the Virtual Terminal.
Note: Access to the Virtual Terminal feature is based on your user permission levels, which are set by your LBM admin. If you do not see the blue (+) button, you may not have the necessary permissions. Please contact your LBM admin for assistance. - In the Virtual Terminal view, fill in all the required transaction details.
- In the Card Number / Token field, enter the card token you previously retrieved.
- Enter the amount and any tip amount (if applicable).
- Review all the details for accuracy.
- Select Submit.
The transaction will then be processed using the tokenized card details, ensuring the actual card number remains secure.
