To watch more how-to videos, visit our video section.
Note: Display Groups replace the Tags feature previously used to organize menu items in SkyTab POS.
When your system updates to the Summer 2025 release or later, existing Tags will automatically migrate to Display Groups in Lighthouse Business Manager (LBM).
You do not need to recreate your Tags manually; simply review and adjust them as needed in the Display Groups section.
Overview
Display Groups in SkyTab POS allow merchants to organize menu items more effectively, speeding up order entry and improving navigation.
- Display Groups replace the former "Tags" feature and offer enhanced functionality.
- You can create Subgroups by assigning a 'parent' group, which helps to further organize your groups.
- Menu items can be assigned to multiple Groups and Subgroups simultaneously.
In addition:
- Menu items retain their configured button color and can display quantity-on-hand (if enabled).
- Item-level availability settings remain in place. For details, visit the Configure Menu Availability on SkyTab Lighthouse Business Manager article.
- Display Groups and Subgroups do not interfere with existing Item/Department configurations. Departments can still be used alongside Groups.
Common Use Cases
Display Groups and Subgroups can be especially useful in a variety of scenarios:
-
Large Bar Menus
- Create Subgroups for different liquor types within a Parent Group (e.g., “Liquor” or “Spirits”). This reduces scrolling by organizing items into smaller, more navigable categories.
-
Extensive Wine Lists
- Organize large wine menus by creating Subgroups based on Wine Type, Region, or any other categorization. Items can be included in multiple Subgroups, allowing flexible organization. Servers can find specific bottles based on region, year, or type.
-
Speed Screens and Shortcut Groupings
- Items can exist in multiple Groups/Subgroups, enabling shortcuts across different parts of the menu for faster access.
Important:
- Display Groups are not available for SkyTab Mobile, SkyTab Online, SkyTab Kiosk, or third-party online ordering integrations at this time.
- As a best practice, creating or editing Display Groups should be performed outside of business hours or during non-peak times, when the POS is not actively being used for order entry or ticket creation.
