Description: Modifiers are additional changes or options that can be selected when purchasing an item. An example would be the type of cheese on a cheeseburger or the mixer for a liquor.
Create a Modifier
- Log in to Connect and select Items in the left-side menu.
- Select Modifiers from the Items menu.
- Select Create in the upper right corner.
- Fill in the modifier details:
- Name: Enter a name that will identify the modifier when selecting to add to an item.
- Cost: Enter the cost of the modifier (enter 0.00 if it does not have an additional cost).
- Status: The status will be active by default and will be available once assigned.
- External_ID: Add an external ID to use with other systems (not required).
- Select Save.
Details
After creating the Modifier, select it from the Modifiers page to edit the details.

Image: Upload a photo of the item.
- Using an internet search engine, find a photo with a square aspect ratio (300x300 pixels).
- Ensure the photo is at least 200x200 pixels to ensure the quality of the image.
- The image's filename should only be letters and less than 20 characters.
- Icon: Generic item icon in place of an uploaded Item image. Uploaded Images take precedence over the selected Icon.
- Name: Name of Modifier.
- Price: If there is an up-charge or price override for the item.
- Commission On: If a Commission is associated with the item Modifier.
- Commission %: Set the percentage of Commission, if applicable.
- Unique ID: Modifiers with the same unique ID will report on Corporate and Venue category sales reports.
- Sort Order: Set the order of the item as it will appear in the Modifier list in Activate.
- Status: Make the item Active or Inactive.
- Sold Out: Set the item as sold out.

Default track inventory value: If an inventory item needs to be tracked within the inventory module, select Yes. This will assign the modifier from the parent item.
- Exclude Item From Category Sales Report: Enabling will remove the Modifier from appearing as its own line item on the Category Sales Report.

Production Unit: Configure the production unit if this is a Mandatory Modifier for a Suite item.

- The Allow All Modifiers must be set to Yes on the Item to use the Allowed Modifier.

Primary Report Category: Custom classification categories that will help filter reports (1st level).

Secondary Report Category: Custom classification categories that will help filter reports (2nd level).

Allow Instructions: Enable the user to add instructions for the modifier.

Allow Quantity: Enable the addition of a quantity for the modifier at the POS.

Prices
The Modifier's price can be changed for each Price Level. If a Price Level isn't set, the price will be the default Price Level. For more information on Price Levels, go here.
- Log in to Connect and select Items in the left-side menu.
- Select Modifiers from the Items menu.
- Select a specific Modifier and go to the Prices tab.

Prefixes Enabled: Enable to display additional options when assigning the modifier to an item.
- Add: Configure a price if there is a charge for adding the modifier to an item.
- No: Configure a price if there is a charge for not adding the modifier to an item.
- Sub: Configure a price if there is a charge for substituting the modifier for another on the item.
- Extra: Configure a price if there is a charge for adding an extra amount of the modifier to the item.

Prefixes Enabled: Enable to display additional options when assigning the modifier to an item.
- All of the Price Levels will also be displayed.
- To edit the Price, select the pencil to the right of each level.
- Select enter to save the new price.
- To edit all levels, select the pencil in the upper right corner.
- Select the green checkmark to save the changes.
Assigned Items
Modifiers can be assigned to specific items.
- Log in to Connect and select Items in the left-side menu.
- Select Modifiers from the Items menu.
- Select a specific Modifier and go to the Assigned Items tab.
- Select Add Item to pull up a list of all items.
- Select Assign next to those that will use the Modifier.
Assigned Modifier Groups
Modifier Groups are used to group common Modifiers together. When assigning multiple Modifiers to an item, select a Modifier Group instead of selecting each modifier individually.
- Log in to Connect and select Items in the left-side menu.
- Select Modifiers from the Items menu.
- Select a specific Modifier and go to the Assigned Modifier Groups tab.
- View any modifier groups that the Modifier has been added to previously.
- Select Add Modifier Group.
- Select Assign to add the Modifier to a new Group.
Barcodes
To add a barcode to a modifier, follow these steps:
- Log in to Connect and select Items in the left-side menu.
- Select Modifiers from the Items menu.
- Select a specific Modifier and go to the Barcodes tab.
- Select Add barcode.
- Enter the code (ex: 123443950).
- Select Save.
Configure the Modifier on an Item
The Item settings will determine if the modifiers are required, the pricing, and if more than one can be selected. The Modifiers can also be assigned to specific vendors for the item.

- Log in to Connect and select Items in the left-side menu.
- Select Items from the menu.
- Search for and select the item.
- Select on the Modifiers tab.
- Require Modifiers: If a Modifier is required or optional to purchase the item.

- For example, if a burger starts at $0 and the type of patty and bun determines the cost,

- For example, if a burger starts at $7, premium meat or toppings add to the base cost.

- Restrict Single Modifier: Allows only one Modifier from the list to be selected.
- Allow All Modifiers: All modifiers set to be Allowed will be available to select on this item.

Assign a Modifier to Specific Vendors
- Log in to Connect and select Items in the left-side menu.
- Select Items from the menu.
- Search for and select the item.
- Select on the Modifiers tab.
- Select Add Modifier.
- Select Assign to all that apply.
- Once the Modifiers have been assigned to the Item, select Custom Vendor.
- The modifier is assigned to all Vendors by default.
- If it is only available at specific vendors, select Assign on the appropriate vendors.
- To remove the modifier from a vendor, select Unassign.
