Description: Two areas within Connect must be configured for the cash drawer to function. Permission Sets (Menu and Cash Drawer) and Terminal Roles (Payment).
Permission Sets – Cash Drawer
- Log in to Connect and select Options.
- Select Permissions Sets
- Search for and select the set to edit.
- Select the Cash Drawer tab to view the options.
- Cash Drawer Assignment: If set to YES a cash drawer assignment per cashier can be done and is required. If the feature is disabled, all related Activate components are invisible and a cash drawer operates in its usual manner.
- Cash Drawer Assignment Requires PIN: If set to YES, a cash drawer can be assigned only when manager PIN is provided.
- Cash Drawer Unassignment Requires PIN: If set to YES, a cash drawer can be unassigned only when manager PIN is provided.
- Cash Drawer Assignment Reset Requires PIN: If set to YES, assignments can be reset only when manager PIN is provided.
- Block UI when cash drawer is open on Thank you screen: If set to YES, the setting would tell Activate if the cash drawer has to be closed before taking any other action. It blocks any new order or transaction when the Cash Drawer is not closed.
- Open Cash Drawer on refunds only for cash transactions: This flag will allow the cash drawer to open when a cash refund has been completed.
- Cash Drawer Dual Enabled: This setting must be turned on if you are using an RJ11 cash drawer plugged into the receipt printer, even if it is the only cash drawer in use on the POS.
Permission Sets – Menu
Within Permission Sets, navigate to the Menu tab.
- Require PIN to open Cash Drawer: This flag determines whether or not a manager PIN is required to use the Open Cash Drawer function within the POS Side Panel.
Terminal Roles - Payment
- Log in to Connect and select Options.
- Select Terminal Roles.
- Select the Terminal Role that will be used for the POS.
- Navigate to the Payment menu option.
- Cash drawer: This flag should be turned on.

Cash Drawer Type: This drop-down should be set to reflect the type of cash drawer being used.
Cash Drawer Assignments in ActivateX
Single Cash Drawer
The cash drawer will only open when assigned to a user in ActivateX.
- Make sure the user who should have the cash drawer assigned to them is logged into the POS with their PIN.
- The User who is logged in will be displayed on the top left of the POS screen.
- Select the Side Panel menu option in the top left of the POS screen.
- To assign a Cash Drawer, select the option Assign Cash Drawer.
- If a manager PIN is required, then it will prompt you to enter a manager PIN.
- Note: If a manager is already logged into the POS, it will not prompt.
- Once the PIN is entered, the screen automatically takes you to the Menu screen.
- If you go back into the Side Panel, you will notice the menu option has now changed to Unassign Cash Drawer.
- Select this to remove the cash drawer assignment.
Dual Cash Drawers
The cash drawer will only open when assigned to a user in ActivateX. When there are 2 cash drawers on a POS, then Activate X will add an additional step to the process.
- Make sure the user who should have the cash drawer assigned to them is logged into the POS with their PIN.
- The User who is logged in will be displayed on the top left of the POS screen.
- Select the Side Panel menu option in the top left of the POS screen.
- To assign a Cash Drawer, select the option Assign Cash Drawer.
- If a manager PIN is required, then it will prompt you to enter a manager PIN.
- Note: If a manager is already logged into the POS, it will not prompt.
- Once the PIN is entered, a window will open that will allow you to choose the cash drawer to be assigned.
Note: If a cash drawer is already assigned, then theAvailable status will change to Assigned
