Note: This only applies to SkyTab version 1.92.1+
Description: Learn how, in this version of SkyTab POS, modifiers automatically accompany main items, simplifying preparation for staff by ensuring they know how to handle dishes with various cooking options, side choices, and additions.
Note: As of SkyTab POS v1.92.1, the "Print modifiers separately" option has been renamed to "Print modifiers." Visit the Hardware Settings on SkyTab POS for additional information on Print modifiers separately usage.
The most common workflow for SkyTab POS merchants is to have the modifiers automatically follow the parent item so the prep staff knows how to prepare the item when that item has multiple cooking options, side choices, additions, etc. In the example below, ATLANTIC SALMON is the main item with two modifiers: Rice Pilaf and Med Rare.
To achieve this, enable Print modifiers in Settings > Hardware > Printers/KDS > Advanced.
Explanation of Print Modifiers Setting Enabled
When enabled, this device will show the main item and its modifiers.
Enabling this feature eliminates the need to assign modifiers individually to this device. Once a menu item with modifiers is assigned to this device, it will automatically follow the main item.
Explanation of Print Modifiers Setting Disabled
When disabled, this device will show only the main item and will not show the modifiers.
Note: This setting only applies to Printers or 3rd party KDS at this time. SkyTab KDS does not allow you to disable this setting.
Use Case Where This Setting Would be Disabled
In some restaurants with multiple prep stations, it is preferable to keep some of the information as limited as possible and only to show the main items prepared at that station without their modifiers.
For example, consider a busy seafood and chicken restaurant, and the top-selling items are:
2 Piece Fish w/2 Sides, and 2 Piece Chicken w/2 Sides - a typical prep ticket with some items and modifiers would be:
- - - FRYER STATION - - -
2 Piece Fish w/2 Sides
Fries
Slaw
2 Piece Fish w/2 Sides
O-Rings
Slaw
2 Piece Chicken w/ 2 Sides
Baked Beans
Cornbread
But in this example restaurant, the sides are NOT prepared at the FRYER STATION. The FRY cook only wants to see the main items.
So the Print modifiers setting would be disabled for the FRYER STATION printer, and the result of that example ticket that is sent to the FRYER STATION would be a much more compact ticket like this:
- - - FRYER STATION - - -
2 Piece Fish w/2 Sides
2 Piece Fish w/2 Sides
2 Piece Chicken w/ 2 Sides
This makes it easier for the cook to focus only on the items without all the extra clutter of the modifiers. Since the Expediter station is configured to ‘Printer modifiers,’ that station is responsible for preparing the side dishes as needed for each ticket, making it easy for the FRYER to focus on the main items.
