Description: Learn how to use Gift Cards on SkyTab POS.
Entry Method
There are three different methods that you can use to enter a Gift Card number when prompted.
-
Swipe: On L1400, you must select the “Swipe Card” button to prepare the application for using the Card Reader on the side of the terminal.
- Select Swipe Card when prompted (This feature is only on the L1400 & M8).
- You will be prompted to “Swipe card now…” where you can do as instructed.
- Select Swipe Card when prompted (This feature is only on the L1400 & M8).
-
Manual Entry: Tap on the “Text Box,” which will load the on-screen keyboard. You can then start typing the numbers from the back of the card.
-
Scan: Similarly to the Manual Entry above, after you tap on the “Text Box,” you can scan the barcode (with a barcode reader) on the back of the Gift Card.
- Tap in the "Text Box."
- Scan the Gift Card’s barcode located on the back of the Gift Card.
- Tap in the "Text Box."
Check Balance
This feature allows you to confirm the available balance on a specific Gift Card.
- Begin by tapping on the Gift Card button.
- Tap the Check Balance button.
- Select the "Text Box" to enter the Card Number (as mentioned in the Entry Method steps above).
- Tap the Check Balance button.
- The System will then begin to process an inquiry into that balance.
- Lastly, it will display the balance on the card, and you can query another card (returning to step 1).
Take Payment
These instructions describe the common ticket flow and how to perform a sale using the Gift Card tender option.
You can select the Gift Card tender at the Payment screen to pay for a ticket.
Load/Reload Gift Cards:
There is no need to activate Gift Cards, but if you have a deactivated Gift Card, you can reactivate it by loading a balance.
Use Discounts
You can use a discount on a ticket to sell Gift Cards even if the ticket balance reaches $0.00. These instructions will describe the common ticket flow, including how to handle discounts on a Gift Card sale/load/reload and how to handle the payment flow if the ticket balance reaches a zero value.
Discount Examples:
Note: If a discount is used that causes the balance of the Ticket to equal zero, you will not be able to close the ticket using a $0.00 value; simply add something to the payment tender, such as $0.01, and it will allow you to close the ticket resulting in that value as change back.
Void Gift Card – Item or Payment
You can void Gift Cards from your tickets and from a payment; just note that if voided from a payment, it does not return that value to the card. Those funds are then lost. If the Gift Card is loaded with a value and then voided from the ticket, it will not gain that value until the sale has been completed.
Void a Gift Card Item
- Select the Gift Card item on the ticket.
- Select Remove Item(s).
Void a Gift Card Payment
Note: This does not return that value to the Gift Card.
- Start by locating and opening the Completed ticket in question.
- Select Void Payment.
- Select the Payment Tender on the ticket.
- Select Void (this will turn blue when ready).
- Confirm Void (select reason if required).
When performing a Refund for a Gift Card, you will locate the ticket above and select the "Refund" option. We recommend refunding it in Cash, but if the customer is adamant about reloading the Gift Card of that value, you will need the card number.
