Description: Learn how to assign or remove Employee Permissions and Job Settings in Shift4 Dine and understand what each permission allows.

Important: If you change permissions while a user is clocked in, the user must clock out and clock back in for the changes to take effect.
Employee Permissions in Shift4 Dine
Employee Permissions apply to an individual employee in Shift4 Dine, regardless of their job.

Assign or Remove Employee Permissions
- Select the employee from the list on the left.
- In the Permissions section, select +.
- Select one or more permissions from the Not Allowed column to move them to the Allowed column.
- To learn more about a permission, select Definition.
- After making your selections, select OK.
- Select Save.
The following sections describe the Employee Permissions available in Shift4 Dine.
Access Accounting Settings
The Access Accounting Settings employee permission grants a user access to the Accounting button on the Manager Settings tab.
- If allowed: The user can navigate to Accounting Settings to create/edit Revenue Classes, Taxes, and Supplemental Fee.
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when attempting to access the Accounting Settings screen.

Access Business Settings
The Access Business Settings employee permission grants a user access to the Business button on the Manager Settings tab.
- If allowed: The user can navigate to Business Settings, modify general settings, and set up ‘Reasons.’
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when attempting to navigate to Business Settings.
Permission Prerequisite: Access Manager Area
Access Hardware Settings
The Access Hardware Settings employee permission grants a user access to the Hardware button on the Manager Settings tab.
- If allowed: User can navigate to the Hardware Settings screen, view terminal-specific information, modify terminal-specific options, and set up various peripheral devices.
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when attempting to navigate to Hardware Settings.

Access Manager Area
The Access Manager Area employee permission grants a user access to the Manager activity screen and settings.
- If allowed: The user can navigate to the Manager screen.
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when attempting to navigate to the Manager screen.
Access Manager Reports
The Access Manager Reports employee permission grants a user access to the Reports area on the Manager screen.
- If allowed: The user can navigate to the Reporting screen and generate Reports.
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when attempting to navigate to the Reporting screen.

Access Menu Settings
The Access Menu Settings employee permission grants a user access to the Menu button on the Manager Settings tab.
- If allowed: The user can navigate to the Menu Settings screen and create/edit the menu.
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when attempting to navigate to Menu Settings.

Access Order Settings
The Access Order Settings employee permission grants a user access to the Order button on the Manager Settings tab.
- If allowed: The user can navigate to the Order Type Settings screen and create/edit Order Types.
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when attempting to navigate to Order Type Settings.
Permission Prerequisite: Access Manager Area
Access Payment Settings
The Access Payment Settings employee permission grants a user access to the Payments button on the Manager Settings tab.
- If allowed: The user can navigate to Payment Settings and create/edit Tender Types and Discounts.
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when attempting to navigate to Payment Settings.
Permission Prerequisite: Access Manager Area
Access Remove/Restore Tax
The Access Remove/Restore Tax employee permission allows a user to use the Remove/Restore Tax button on a ticket.
- If allowed: The user can navigate to the Taxes/Gratuity button on an Open Ticket to add/remove Taxes & Gratuities.
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when pressing the Taxes/Gratuity button.
Access System Log
The Access System Log employee permission allows a user to view the System Log.
- If allowed: Displays the System Log with the Hardware Settings screen.
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when attempting to navigate to the System Log.

Access Table/Reservation Setup
The Access Table/Reservation Setup employee permission grants access to the Table Layout and Reservation Configuration in the Settings area.
Note: This is not an active feature.
Access Ticket Settings
The Access Ticket Settings employee permission grants a user access to the Tickets button on the Manager Settings tab.
- If allowed: The user can navigate to the Ticket Settings screen.
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when attempting to access the Ticket Settings screen.

Access User Settings
The Access User Settings employee permission grants a user access to the Users button on the Manager Settings screen.
- If allowed: The user can navigate to the User Settings screen and create/edit Jobs and Employees.
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when attempting to navigate to the User Settings screen.

Adjust Loyalty Points
The Adjust Loyalty Points employee permission allows a user to adjust a loyalty member's point balance.
- If allowed: The user can adjust loyalty members' point balances.
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when attempting to adjust loyalty members’ point balance.
Allow Drawer Sharing
The Allow Drawer Sharing employee permission allows an employee to connect to a cash drawer that is already being used by another employee.
- If allowed: The employee can use a cash drawer that is already being used by another employee.
- If NOT allowed: If a Cash Drawer is already opened by another employee, the Cash Drawer option is missing from the Select Drawer to Use screen when the employee logs in to the Shift4 Dine Workstation.
Allow Manual Gratuity
The Allow Manual Gratuity employee permission allows a user to manually add gratuity to the ticket.
- If allowed: The user can manually add gratuity to the ticket.
- If NOT allowed: The user cannot manually add gratuity to the ticket.
Allow Manual Tip Pay Out
The Allow Manual Tip Pay Out employee permission allows a user to perform the manual Tip Pay Out drawer action when the "Non-Cash Tips are paid as wages" setting is enabled.
- If allowed: The employee can perform the manual Tip Pay Out drawer function when the "Non-Cash Tips are paid as wages" setting is enabled.
- If NOT allowed: The employee cannot perform the manual Tip Pay Out drawer function.
Allow Maximum Tip Override
The Allow Maximum Tip Override employee permission allows a user to override the maximum tip percentage limit.
- If allowed: The user can enter their PIN to override the Maximum Tip Percentage Limit set.
- If NOT allowed: If the tip amount exceeds the Maximum Tip Percentage Limit, a Manager must approve/override the maximum tip percentage.
Allow Multiple Drawers
The Allow Multiple Drawers employee permission allows employees to connect to multiple cash drawers simultaneously.
- If allowed: Employees can use more than one cash drawer at once.
- If NOT allowed: If the employee has already selected a Cash Drawer on a different Workstation, the Cash Drawer option is missing from the Select Drawer to Use screen when the employee logs in to another Workstation.
Allow Receipt Reprints
The Allow Receipt Reprints employee permission allows a user to reprint receipts.
- If allowed: The user can reprint receipts.
- If NOT allowed: The user is restricted from reprinting receipts to prevent employees from using a guest check from one table to fraudulently collect cash from another.
Allow Remove Gratuity
The Allow Remove Gratuity employee permission allows users to remove gratuity from tickets.
- If allowed: The user can remove gratuity from the ticket.
- If NOT allowed: The user cannot remove gratuity from the ticket.
Cash In
The Cash In employee permission allows a user to use the Cash In function on their drawer.
- If allowed: The user can use the Cash In option within the Cash Drawer menu on Order Entry.
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when attempting to use the Cash In option.
Cash Out
The Cash Out employee permission allows a user to use the Cash Out function on their drawer.
- If allowed: The user can use the Cash Out option within the Cash Drawer menu on Order Entry.
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when attempting to use the Cash Out option.
Change Advantage Pricing
The Change Advantage Pricing employee permission allows a user to change the advantage price the customer pays when taking a payment.
- If allowed: The user can modify the advantage price when taking a payment.
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when pressing the TAKE PAYMENT button on an open ticket.
Change Item Price
The Change Item Price employee permission allows a user to change a menu item price from the menu item-level functions on a ticket.
- If allowed: The user can modify the price of uncommitted line items.
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when attempting to save a change to the price of an item.
Note: The price of a committed line item cannot be modified regardless of permission.
Change Item Quantity
The Change Item Quantity employee permission allows a user to change a menu item quantity from the menu item-level functions on a ticket.
- If allowed: The user can modify the sold quantity of uncommitted line items.
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when trying to save a change to the quantity of an item.
Note: The sold quantity of a committed line item cannot be modified regardless of permission.
Count Any Till
The Count Any Till employee permission allows a user to perform cash counts on tills that have not been removed.
Permission Prerequisite: Access Manager Area
Edit Customers
The Edit Customers employee permission allows a user to edit customers in the database.
- If allowed: The user can navigate to the Customers screen and create or edit customers.
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when attempting to edit a customer
Enter CC Manually
The Enter CC Manually employee permission allows a user to enter a credit card manually.
- If allowed: The user can process a credit card using manual entry.
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when pressing the PROCESS button on the Manual Entry subsection of the Credit Payment Screen.
Edit User Timesheets
The Edit User Timesheets employee permission allows a user to view and edit all employees' time shifts.
- If allowed: The user can enter the Timeclock screen, search for employee shifts, and edit their details.
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when attempting to navigate to the Timeclock screen

Manager Cash Count
The Manager Cash Count employee permission allows a user to perform a cash count on all cash drawers.
- If allowed: The user can perform a cash count on the Activity Screen to count or close selected cash drawers.
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when pressing Perform Cash Count on the Activity Screen.
Make Payments
The Make Payments employee permission allows a user to make payments on tickets.
- If allowed: The user can take payments on a ticket.
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when pressing the TAKE PAYMENT button on an open ticket.
Manage Tickets
The Manage Tickets employee permission allows users to access the Manage Tickets section of the system, which includes the ability to split or combine tickets.
Manager Tip Adjust
The Manager Tip Adjust employee permission allows a user to perform a tip adjustment for all users.
- If allowed: The user can use the Adjust Tips button on the Manager Activity Screen to enter the Adjust Tips screen. This employee can see credit transactions from all users.
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when pressing Adjust Tips on the Manager Activity Screen
Modify Inventory Tracking
The Modify Inventory Tracking employee permission allows a user to edit menu item tracking.
- If allowed: The user can navigate to the Item Tracking subsection of Menu Settings to edit Item Tracking settings for items or update the quantity on hand.
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when navigating to Item Tracking under Menu Settings.
Permission Prerequisite: Access Manager Area and Access Menu Settings
No Sale
The No Sale employee permission allows a user to use the No Sale button.
- If allowed: The user can use the No Sale option within the Cash Drawer menu on Order Entry.
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when attempting to use the No Sale option.
Open Credit Refund
The Open Credit Refund employee permission allows a user to issue a refund to a credit card that was not originally used to pay for a ticket.
- If allowed: The user can use Open Refund on the Activity Screen to start the Open Refund process.
Override Locks
The Override Locks employee permission allows a user to override locks when prompted.
Perform Batch Settlement
The Perform Batch Settlement employee permission allows a user to use the Settle Batch button on the Manager Activity screen to send and process the transactions in the current batch for deposit.
Refund
The Refund employee permission allows a user to issue a refund for a ticket.
- If allowed: The user can use Refund on the Completed section of Order Entry to start a refund.
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when pressing the Refund button.
Remove Cash Drawer
The Remove Cash Drawer employee permission allows a user to remove a cash drawer that they own.
- If allowed: The user can use the Remove Drawer option within the Cash Drawer menu on Order Entry.
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when attempting to use the Remove Drawer option.
Reopen Completed Tickets
The Reopen Completed Tickets employee permission allows a user to reopen closed tickets.
- If allowed: The user can use Reopen Ticket on the completed tickets view to open closed tickets.
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when pressing the Reopen Ticket button.
Reprint Credit Card Slips
The Reprint Credit Card Slips employee permission allows a user to reprint credit card slips.
- If allowed: The user can use Print on Completed Orders to print a copy of any ticket's receipts.
- If NOT allowed: Displays PIN Override dialog when pressing the Print button on the Completed Orders Screen for any ticket that has one or more credit card payments on it; cannot re-print even the itemized receipt for a ticket paid with credit.
Resend Printed Items
The Resend Printed Items employee permission allows a user to resend previously printed items for reprinting.
- If allowed: The employee can resend previously printed items to be reprinted.
- If NOT allowed: Resend Item(s) button is grayed out.
Safe Drop
The Safe Drop employee permission allows a user to use the Safe Drop function on their drawer.
See Customers
The See Customers employee permission allows a user to view customers in the database. If not allowed, this removes the Customers tab from the Order Entry screen for that user.
Transfer Tickets to Others
The Transfer Tickets to Others employee permission allows a user to transfer tickets to another user.
- If allowed: The user can use Transfer on Order Entry to give ownership of tickets to other users.
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when the user attempts to transfer their own tickets to another user.
Transfer Tickets to Self
The Transfer Tickets to Self employee permission allows a user to transfer tickets they do not own to themselves.
- If allowed: The user can use Transfer on Order Entry to take ownership of other users' tickets.
- If NOT allowed: Displays PIN Override dialog when attempting to transfer other users' tickets to themselves.
Use Discounts
The Use Discounts employee permission allows a user to apply discounts.
- If allowed: The user can apply discounts to tickets and items.
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when attempting to open the Ticket Level Discounts Menu or when selecting an item level discount.
User Cash Count
The User Cash Count employee permission allows a user to perform a cash count on a drawer that they own.
- If allowed: The user can use Perform Cash Count on the Employee Screen to count their cash drawer.
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when pressing Perform Cash Count on the Employee Screen.
User Tip Adjust
The User Tip Adjust employee permission allows a user to adjust their own tips.
- If allowed: The user can use the Adjust Tips button on the Employee Screen to enter the Adjust Tips screen. The employee can only see their own credit transactions.
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when pressing Adjust Tips on the Employee screen.
Void Items
The Void Items employee permission allows a user to void items on a ticket.
- If allowed: The user can use the Remove Item button with a line item selected to void the item.
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when pressing the Remove Item button.
Void Tickets
The Void Tickets employee permission allows a user to void tickets.
- If allowed: The user can use the Void button from the Ticket screen to void the ticket.
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when pressing the Void button.
Void Transactions
The Void Transactions employee permission allows a user to void transactions.
- If allowed: The user can select payments on the Payment screen to void a payment on an open ticket.
- If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override dialog when selecting a payment from the Payment screen.
Job Settings in Shift4 Dine

Job Settings apply to a Job type (for example, Server or Bartender) in Shift4 Dine and can be assigned to any employee regardless of their individually assigned Job.
Assign Job Settings in Shift4 Dine
Permissions can be assigned to each employee, regardless of job type.
- Navigate to Manager > Settings > Users > Jobs.
- Tap within the Settings box in the lower right corner. A Definition button for each setting is located to the right of each setting, providing a brief description of what this setting allows employees with this Job to do.
- Select one or multiple settings from the left column (Not Allowed) to move them to the right column (Allowed).
- Once your selections have been made, tap OK at the bottom to save the settings for the selected Job.

Access Host Mode
The Access Host Mode Job Setting allows a user to access host mode.
If allowed: Accesses the Host screen where you can interact with the Table Layout, Reservations Calendar, and Waitlist. If NOT allowed: The navigation option for the Host screen does not display.
Access Completed Tickets
The Access Completed Tickets Job Setting allows a user with this Job to view and open recently closed tickets.
Access to all Tickets
The Access to all Tickets Job Setting gives the Job access to all tickets.
If allowed: Enables the "Show All" toggle on the Order screen, giving access to all tickets. If NOT allowed: Restricts the "Show All" toggle on the Order screen, giving access only to tickets created by the current employee.
Allow Fast Pay
The Allow Fast Pay Job Setting allows a user to use the Fast Pay buttons.
If allowed: Accesses the Fast Pay buttons on a newly created open ticket. These buttons are replaced with the normal Open Ticket functions (Add a Guest, Split, Taxes/Gratuity, Print) when reopening an existing open ticket. If NOT allowed: Displays the normal Open Ticket functions.
Allow Grid View
The Allow Grid View Job Setting allows a user to see the ticket grid view and create tickets.
If allowed: The user may operate as a normal employee. Employees may access specific features and areas within the system based on their Employee Permissions. If NOT allowed: Accesses only the Employee page and no other areas of the system.
Allow Manual Weight Entry
The Allow Manual Weight Entry Job Setting gives the Job access to manually inputting weight for items sold by weight.
Allow Unlock Crypto Tickets
The Allow Unlock Crypto Tickets Job Setting allows users to unlock tickets using Crypto payments.
Auto Print Delivery Information on Transfer
The Auto Print Delivery Information on Transfer Job Setting generates a Guest Check containing customer information when a user transfers a ticket with a customer attached to another user.
If allowed: Prints a receipt every time the user transfers a ticket with a customer.
If NOT allowed: Does not print a receipt when the user transfers a ticket with a customer.
Blind Job
The Blind Job Job Setting prevents a user from seeing any sales or payment information related to their cash drawer or employee bank.
Declare Tips at Clock Out
The Declare Tips at Clock Out Job Setting requires a user to declare their cash tips before clocking out.
If allowed: Displays a Declare Tips dialog after pressing Clock Out on the Employee page. The employee uses the NumPad to enter cash tips received during the shift.
If NOT allowed: Does not prompt the employee to enter cash tips.
Hold Kitchen Items
The Hold Kitchen Items Job Setting allows a user to hold kitchen items on a ticket.
If allowed: Accesses the Hold Item(s) button when an item is selected within an open ticket.
If NOT allowed: Does not display the Hold Item(s) button.
Ignore Required Modifier Sets
The Ignore Required Modifier Sets Job Setting allows a user to ignore the required modifier set on a menu item.
If allowed: Does not require modifier selections for required modifier sets.
If NOT allowed: Requires modifier selection before the user commits or applies a payment to a ticket. If an attempt is made without modifier selections, the action is blocked and an error message displays.
Set House Account Threshold
The Set House Account Threshold Job Setting allows a user to modify the dollar limit threshold of a customer's house account.
If allowed: May modify the House Account Threshold for customers using the Set Account Threshold button on the House Account section of the Customer screen.
If NOT allowed: Displays a PIN Override prompt when the user presses the Set Account Threshold button.
Show Hidden Menu Parts
The Show Hidden Menu Parts Job Setting allows a user to view any menu part (Department or Item) currently hidden due to Menu Availability configurations.
If allowed: Can view any menu part currently hidden due to menu availability configurations.
If NOT allowed: Cannot view hidden menu parts.
Transfer Ticket on Scan
The Transfer Ticket on Scan Job Setting allows a user with this Job to scan a barcode on a receipt to transfer a ticket to themselves.
View / Print Shift Report
The View / Print Shift Report Job Setting allows a user to view or print their Shift Report.
If allowed: Accesses the View Shift Report button on the Employee page. Pressing this displays a Shift Report Slip on the screen and gives the option to print it from the Local Receipt Printer.
If NOT allowed: Does not display the View Shift Report button on the Employee page.
