Limit the Maximum Tip Amount Allowed on SkyTab POS

Description: Learn how to limit the maximum tip amount allowed for tips applied to Credit/Gift Card payments adjusted in the Tip Adjustment screen to prevent user errors. If a tip is above the Max Tip percentage limit, it requires a Manager to approve via PIN entry or Card Swipe.

Enable Limit for the Maximum Tip Amount

1. Navigate to Manager > Settings > Business > Advanced and enable the toggle for "Maximum Tip Percentage Limit."
2. Enter an amount for the maximum tip between 1 and 1000.
   • Note: The default setting is Off/Disabled.
     
3. Tap Save.

When the "Maximum Tip Percentage Limit" toggle is ON, and the setting value is within the range of 1 to 1000, any tip adjustment made by the user will be checked against the maximum value limit.

• If the tip amount is less than or equal to the threshold amount, then the tip will be applied to the payment.
• If the tip amount is greater than the threshold amount, then the POS will prompt for a manager PIN override:
  

Assign User Permissions for "Allow Maximum Tip Override"

1. Navigate to Manager > Settings > Users > Employees tab.
2. Select the Employee to apply the permission.
3. Under Permissions, select the "+" (plus sign) to go the the Assign Permissions window.
   
4. Select "Allow Maximum Tip Override" from the Not Allowed Permissions column to move it to the Allowed Permissions column.
   
5. Tap Ok and Save.
6. Repeat for additional employees.

• If a PIN with the “Allow Maximum Tip Override” is entered, the tip will be applied to the payment.
• If a PIN is entered without the "Allow Maximum Tip Override" permission, the tip will NOT be applied to the payment, and a User Not Authorized error will display.

How it Works

1. With an unbatched Credit/Gift Card payment on the Tip Adjustment screen, select a ticket to adjust tips (Pending or Finalized).
2. Enter a value that exceeds the maximum tip value.
   As an example, if the maximum tip is set to 10% and we have a $1.00 payment, any tip amount equal to or lower than $0.10 will be processed as usual. Any tip of $0.11 and over will prompt the new feature.
   
   For users without permission, if the tip amount exceeds the maximum tip percentage, a Manager must approve/override the maximum tip percentage.
