Description: Review the process for installing the PAX SP30 PIN Pad to work the Echo software. Specifically, this article covers the following:
Terminal Packaging
The PAX SP30 device will be preloaded with the needed information for processing. You will receive one package for each of your terminals. Your package will include:
- 1 TP-link switch
- 2 10ft cables
- 1 SP30 Pax Device
Hardware installation
To install the SP30 device hardware, begin the process with the TP-Link Switch:
- Connect the SP30 device to power.
- Remove the Ethernet cord from the back of your Echo terminal (fourth port from the left).
- Plug the Ethernet cord into the switch into Port 1.
- In Port 2, connect one of the included cables, then connect it to the Echo.
- Open the PAX device and connect it to power.
- In Port 3, connect the other included cable to the red port on the PAX.
Gather the IP address from the PAX device to enter into the Echo software.
- Select FUNC on the keypad.
- Enter Password (MMDDYYYY) to get to the main menu.
- Select 6 – Communication.
- Enter Password (MMDDYYYY) to get to the Communication Options.
- Select 7 – LAN Parameters.
- Select 2 – IP Address.
- Write down the IP Address.
- Press ENTER to go back, then select CANCEL until you are at the main menu.
Software Configuration
Now that the hardware installation is complete, the software must be programmed to match. All held transactions and End of Day records must be completed before beginning this process. Any transactions left in the system will not be able to be tendered using the SP30.
- Log in to the terminal, and navigate to Manager > Settings > Hardware settings > Pin Pad Settings.
- Enter the IP address gathered from the SP30 device into the first box. Leave out any preceding 0's in the IP address. (Example: 192.168.110.001 should be 192.168.110.1 in the Echo settings.)
- The Test Messagebox will allow for modification of the message being sent to the SP30 as a test. With the SP30 device connected and powered on, use the Test Connection button to ensure the process is complete.
- If this process is done too quickly, you could see a failure message. Wait 10-15 seconds without touching the screen and try again. The SP30 lights up and displays the message programmed in the text box.
- "Prompt For Tip On Device" should be set to Yes to allow for all tender types to accept tips.
Important: If Prompt For Tip On Device isn’t active, the user will not be able to take tips on Debit tendered transactions. The sign-on screen must be disabled to use "Prompt For Tip On Device." - Navigate to Manager > Setting > General Settings and ensure Accept Tips is toggled to YES.
Your device is now ready for use. When taking credit transactions, instead of using the card swiper, the PAX will light up and ask for the tip information.
Important: You can contact the Support department to add custom tip amounts to the PAX SP30 PIN Pad. The Suggested Tip amounts found on the General Settings page are for printing onto the customer receipt.
At this point, customers can either tap their phone for NFC (Apple, Google, Samsung, etc.) or insert the card to “dip” for EMV. Debit would be similar, but the user will need to enter their PIN.
Note: As with the V805 device, dipped debit transactions aren’t eligible for full refunds and must be completed as a partial or open refund.
