Set Gratuity Calculation to Gross or Net for SkyTab POS

Overview

You can now configure gratuities to calculate based on either the gross check total (before discounts) or the net check total (after discounts). This flexible option helps businesses align gratuity calculations with their operational and customer service preferences. Gratuity settings can be adjusted in Lighthouse Business Manager (LBM) and SkyTab POS.

LBM Configuration

To configure gratuity calculations in Lighthouse:

1. Log in to LBM.
2. Navigate to SkyTab Settings > Accounting > Gratuities.
3. Select an existing gratuity or create a new one.
   1. In the Discounts section, select the radio button to choose whether the gratuity should be calculated based on the Before Discount (Gross) or After Discount (Net) amount.
      
   2. Select Save.

SkyTab POS Configuration

To adjust gratuity settings in SkyTab POS:

1. Log in to the POS.
2. Navigate to Manager > Settings > Accounting > Gratuities.
3. Select an existing gratuity or create a new one.
   1. In the Discount Calculation section, choose whether the gratuity should apply to the Before Discount (Gross) or After Discount (Net) amount.
      
   2. Tap Save.

How It Works

Before Discount (Gross):

The gratuity is calculated based on the original subtotal before any discounts are applied.

Example:

• Subtotal: $163.85
• Discounts: $40.99
• 20% Gratuity: $32.77 (calculated from $163.85)

Note: Taxes are not included in the gross calculation.

After Discount (Net):

The gratuity is calculated based on the discounted subtotal.

Example:

• Subtotal: $163.85
• Discounts: $40.99
• Net Total: $122.86
• 20% Gratuity: $24.57 (calculated from $122.86 net)
