Taking a Payment on SkyTab Air
Before You Begin
- If you haven't created a ticket yet, visit Create a New Ticket.
Supported Payment Types
SkyTab Air supports Cash, Credit Card, and Gift Card transactions.
- Non-Cash Payments: Complete the transaction directly on the device (Tap, Dip, or Swipe).

Cash Payments:
- Employee Bank users can complete cash payments directly on the device.

Cash Drawer users cannot take cash on the handheld. The Cash button will be disabled, and you must finalize the transaction at the POS workstation assigned to the drawer.

Payment Overview
When you open the payment screen on SkyTab Air, you now have three options for settling the check:
- Full Payment: Pay the entire balance in one transaction.
- Equal Split: Automatically divide the check into equal shares (e.g., 2 ways, 3 ways).
- Custom Amount (Multi-Tender): Enter a specific dollar amount to pay a portion of the bill (e.g., paying $20 in cash and the remainder on a card).
How to Process a Full Payment
- Open the ticket you wish to close.
- Tap the Pay button.
- Ensure the full balance is displayed.
- Select your tender type (Credit, Cash, or Gift Card).
- Follow the prompts to add a tip (if applicable) and process the card or cash.
- Select your receipt option (Print, Email, Text, or No Receipt) to close the ticket.
Note: The features below are currently available only for Pilot users.
How to Process Equal Split Payments
Use this feature when a group wants to split the total bill evenly (e.g., "Split the check three ways").
- Tap Pay on the open ticket.
- On the Payment screen, locate the split option (e.g., 1/2, 1/3, 1/4).
- Tap the number of ways you want to split the check.
Note: The device will automatically calculate the amount due for the first share. - Select the tender type for the first guest and complete the payment flow (Tip > Process > Receipt).
- Once the first payment is successful, the device will return to the payment screen showing the Remaining Balance.
- Repeat the process for the remaining guests until the balance reaches $0.00 and the ticket closes.
How to Process Custom Partial Payments (Multi-Tender)
Use this feature if a guest wants to pay a specific amount (e.g., "Put $50 on this card") or use multiple tender types (e.g., part cash, part credit) to close a single check.
- Tap Pay on the open ticket.
- Tap Custom Split (or the Custom Amount button).
- Enter the specific amount the guest wishes to pay using the keypad.
- Tap Pay or Continue.
- Select the tender type (Cash, Credit, or Gift Card) for this partial amount.
- Complete the payment workflow (Tip > Process > Receipt).
- The screen will update to show the new Remaining Balance.
- Process the next payment for the remaining balance.
- The ticket will automatically close once the total balance is fully paid.
Notes:
- Splitting by Item: To split a check by specific items or seat numbers, please use the Split Ticket function before entering the payment screen. The payment screen splits by amount only.
- Mid-Transaction Updates: If you process a partial payment and leave the screen, the remaining balance will be saved. You can return to the ticket later to settle the remaining balance.
- Offline Mode: Equal splits and multi-tender payments will function in Offline Mode and sync once the device is back online.
