Email Services and Free Domains via GoDaddy Integration
The free domain service provided through our GoDaddy API integration does not support the creation of email accounts or the connection of third-party email providers. This article explains the technical reasons for this limitation and outlines available options.
Why Email Services Are Not Available
When we register and point your domain to your store, we do not manage the domain’s full DNS (Domain Name System) settings. This limitation prevents us from supporting custom email services.

Limited DNS Access: We configure your domain using A records to direct traffic to your store. However, we do not have the ability to:
- Add or modify MX records (required for routing email)
- Add or modify CNAME records (used for email verification or subdomains)
- Provide access to a DNS management panel
Without these capabilities, it is not possible to configure email services such as Gmail, Outlook, or Zoho Mail.

Free Domain Setup:
- The domain is owned by us and configured automatically.
- The setup is optimized for fast store accessibility and ease of maintenance.
- Email functionality and DNS flexibility are not prioritized in this configuration
Implications for Custom Email Use
To use a custom email address (e.g., info@yourdomain.com), you will need:
- Full DNS access
- The ability to modify MX, CNAME, TXT, and SPF records
Available Options
Option 1: Use a Different Domain with Full DNS Access
Purchase and manage your own domain separately through GoDaddy or another registrar. This allows you to:
- Connect the domain manually to your store
- Fully manage DNS settings to configure email services with your preferred provider
Option 2: Transfer Domain Ownership to Yourself
Transfer ownership of the free domain from Shift4 to your personal GoDaddy account. This grants you:
- Full DNS management capabilities
- The ability to set up professional email services
- Control over domain verification, email authentication, and subdomain configuration
