The Order Entry screen provides a consistent experience across all Shift4 Dine devices, delivering a fast, intuitive experience. While each device type includes adjustments tailored to its screen size and use case, the core design elements remain consistent for a unified workflow.

All three core devices — Workstation, Handheld, and Tablet.
Will this require staff retraining?
Minimal retraining is needed. The interface is intuitive, and core functionality is easy to navigate. A short walkthrough is recommended.

How does this affect order taking speed?

How do I log out or switch users?
Log out and user options are located in the kebab menu (⋮).
How do I select multiple items on a ticket?
Tapping an item selects it individually. To select multiple items, long-press any item to enter Multi-Select mode, then tap additional items to add them to your selection.
How do I apply a discount?
The discount function has its own icon at the top of the Order Entry screen, next to the "Print Guest Check" icon.
Features Across All Devices
Ticket Header Bar:
- Back Arrow: Returns to the previous screen.
- Order Number & Table Name: Displayed at the top of the screen.
- Print Icon: Quick access to print the ticket.
- Discount Icon: Quick access to apply a ticket-level discount, located next to the Print Guest Check button.
- Kebab Menu (⋮): Access to advanced options.
Dropdown Controls:
- Order Type
- Ticket Name
- Table Selection
Visual & Functional Enhancements:
- White header bar for a clean, modern look.
- Modernized icons for easier navigation.
- Pinned Ticket Totals: Always visible at the bottom of the screen.
- Item List scrolls independently for better visibility and smoother navigation.
- Long-press the “Send” button to access additional send options.
Multi-Select Mode:
By default, tapping an item selects it individually. To select multiple items, use Multi-Select mode.
- Tapping an item selects it individually. Tapping a second item switches the selection to that item.
- Long-press any item to enter Multi-Select mode.
- In Multi-Select mode, tap additional items to add them to your selection.
- Use Select All or Deselect All to manage your selection.
- The following actions can be applied to selected items:
- Discount
- Duplicate
- Move
- Coursing
- Hold Item(s)
- Schedule Send
- To exit Multi-Select mode, either execute one of the actions above or tap the X icon in the top left.
Kebab Menu Options:
- Guest Selection
- Taxes
- Gratuities
- Special Requests
- Logout (when applicable)
Action Button Layout
- Send: Located on the left.
- Pay: Located on the right.
- Back Arrow: Located in the header.
Device-Specific Features
Workstation
- “Send”, “Pay”, and “Pre-Auth” buttons at the bottom of the screen.
- “Fast Pay” options appear above action buttons.
- "Manage" is located in the kebab menu.
- Pre-Auth is available on the Workstation.
Handheld
- Action buttons are located just below the header for accessibility on smaller screens.
- Pre-Auth is not available on the Handheld.

Tablet
- Shares the Workstation layout, optimized for touch use.
