What is SkyTab SOLO?
SkyTab SOLO is the Shift4’s solution that transforms the PAX A930/A800 and A80 into a standalone payments device, operating without communicating to a POS system. SOLO provides a very simple way to enter a charge, an optional tip, and accept a credit card with the option to provide a receipt. SkyTab SOLO is being deployed in two configurations:
-
Configuration 1: SkyTab SOLO is preloaded onto the A930/A800/A80 device (with injected keys and MID) with the 4G card activated. Traditional SkyTab is not pre-configured on the device.
Note: The PAX A930s and A800 come with the 4G card activated, and the PAX A80 will need the hard wire connection or Wi-Fi to have a connection- This configuration is ideal for anyone, regardless of what POS they are using and regardless of their current gateway and processor, that needs a way to accept EMV CC payments for curbside, at-the-door delivery, or anywhere outside of the restaurant.
- It is designed to work out-of-the-box without the need for Wi-Fi (since we ship with 4G card activated), integration software, or training. A simple one-page “how-to” is shipped with each device.
Note: Configuration 1 is the Basic setup for the PAX Devices on the Advantage Program
- Configuration 2: SkyTab SOLO will be deployed on each (traditional) SkyTab device (which has 4G that is not activated). It is provided as a backup/emergency stand-alone terminal for those rare times that the POS or restaurant’s standard Internet connection experiences an issue.

Internal FAQs
Why not just install SkyTab and SkyTab SOLO on every device rather than having two configuration options?
SkyTab SOLO merchants might get confused if they accidentally launch the standard SkyTab application and vice versa.
Can SkyTab SOLO be used with any POS, gateway, and/or current processing, even if the merchant is not with Shift4?
Yes! SkyTab SOLO is compatible with any POS system and payment gateway.
Will merchants be required to switch all payment processing to Shift4?
No, only SkyTab SOLO will be Shift4 acquiring.
What if the merchant needs to perform a refund or tip adjustment?
SkyTab SOLO performed transactions can be refunded. On the main screen, select the 3 horizontal lines and select Transactions. Find the transaction to refund, select the 3 vertical dots to the right of that transaction, and select Refund.
Will SkyTab SOLO support email receipts and if so, would merchants be given access to email addresses if they collect them on SkyTab?
This is currently being worked on, and we hope to have this integrated into the SkyTab SOLO on Monday 3/23.
When will non-integrated SkyTab SOLO be ready to deploy?
We are targeting 3/23, late in the day.
Why can’t SkyTab SOLO automatically enter the business name into the settings screen within the app?
The MID will be added to each device during deployment. However, there is no automated way, given the tight time frame, to do this automatically.
Why doesn’t SkyTab SOLO work in “kiosk” mode like SkyTab?
There are a few reasons for this:
- SkyTab SOLO is not designed to leave behind on a table with guests operating it.
- There are a lot of Android phone users that will instinctively know how to use the “back” button on the bottom of the device. The back button is implemented within the app to “go back”...or in cases like with the tip & insert/tap card screens cancels the translation.
- Due to the second bullet point and because of how quickly we are rolling out the application, we wanted functionality to be as easy and intuitive as possible.
Why is there a “Demo Mode”?
Demo Mode will be utilized for merchant-led training, and for our sales teams to show the capabilities. We will be adding a notice on the SkyTab SOLO screen that demo mode is activated to avoid missed transactions.
Will there be a separate icon for launching SkyTab SOLO?
Yes! Additionally, we have a new icon for SkyTab as well.
Does SkyTab SOLO automatically fill in the business name, address, and phone in Settings from what is configured in Titan/Lighthouse?
Yes, this information will auto-populate.
What if someone were to change the business name on the device from what was provided by Titan/Lighthouse?
The printed receipt will use the business name/address that is stored on the device but emailed receipts will use the business name/address from what is in Titan/Lighthouse.
What if the merchant wants to start integrating the SkyTab SOLO with the POS?
SkyTab SOLO, by design, will never integrate with the POS. If the merchant wishes to use their A930 with the POS, the standard SkyTab application must be pushed on the device (which can be done remotely), and they can enjoy the standard SkyTab experience provided they are using a POS that has the minimum requirements to work with SkyTabs.
What if the merchant changes the business name/address, etc. on the device and decides they want to instead use what was pre-setup in Titan/Lighthouse?
From the SkyTab’s Android Home screen, go into Settings, then Apps. Select the SkyTab SOLO application and touch “Force Stop.” Next, go into storage and “Clear Data.” When SkyTab SOLO is launched, it will re-bootstrap and fill in the business name, address, and phone number.
