Description: Learn how to verify and adjust microphone input settings in Windows 11.
- Open Start Menu by selecting the Start button (Windows logo) in the bottom-left corner of your screen.
- Type Settings in the search bar.
- From the search results, select Settings (gear icon).
- Select System on the left panel (default selection).
- Select Sound from the options on the right side.
- Scroll to the Input section.
- Select your preferred microphone from the drop-down list within Choose a Device for Speaking or Recording.
- Test the microphone by speaking into it and watch the input volume bar respond. The input bar should move when you speak.
Note: If needed, adjust the input volume slider for the applicable applications to increase or decrease sensitivity.
Troubleshooting Tips
- Confirm the Input Device is reflecting the correct microphone based on the individual application.
- Make sure the microphone is not muted via hardware switch.
- If your microphone is not listed, unplug/re-plug.
- Run the Windows Troubleshooter (Settings > System > Sound > Troubleshoot).
- Restart Windows.
