What is causing this Issue?
On standalone PAX devices, the on-screen keyboard may not appear when attempting a manual entry transaction in the Shift4 One app. This prevents you from entering the card number manually.
Internal:
This occurs because the Shift4 One app relies on the Shift4 Lite/P2PE applications to generate and display the on-screen keyboard. If the Shift4 Lite/P2PE app does not have permission to display over other apps, the keyboard cannot appear within the Shift4 One app.
How do I resolve this Issue?
To resolve this issue, you must enable the “Display over other apps” permission for the Shift4 app on the device.
To enable the permission:
- From the main menu of the device, tap Settings.
- In Settings, select Apps & notifications.
- Select Shift4.
- If you do not see it immediately, tap SEE ALL {number} APPS and scroll through the list until you find Shift4.
- If you do not see it immediately, tap SEE ALL {number} APPS and scroll through the list until you find Shift4.
- After selecting the Shift4 app, tap Advanced at the bottom to expand additional options.
- Tap Display over other apps.
- Toggle Allow display over other apps to ON.
The toggle will change from grey to green, and the indicator dot will move to the right.
Test a Manual Entry Transaction
- Navigate back to the Shift4 One app.
- Attempt a manual entry transaction.
- When prompted to enter the card number, tap the card number field.
The on-screen keyboard should now appear, allowing you to manually enter the card information successfully.
