Description: Set up the ChefTab Kitchen Video System (KVS).
Initial Setup
Upon powering up the ChefTab, a splash screen will appear momentarily and the ChefTab will tell you when it is ready to start receiving orders.
As tickets are received from the POS, they are displayed on the screen as if it were a ticket wheel; the newest orders are on the left, oldest orders are on the right.
To access the ChefTab options:
- Choose the Settings dropdown next to the lock icon in the top right corner, or press MENU on the bump bar. Initially, the system is locked, and the only option that is accessible is an unlock option.
- ChefTab has a password that can be programmed to gain access to all other options. Select Unlock and enter the programmed password to gain access to all options. By default, a unit is shipped with a password of 9999.
- Once unlocked, the entire options menu is enabled.
- You can lock the ChefTab manually by pressing the menu button and selecting Lock in the menu, although it will automatically lock after several minutes of inactivity.
Note: Locking only applies to the menu screen, and never affects the core functionality of the KVS.
Ethernet Setup
Prior to sending tickets to the ChefTab Pro, you have to configure the Ethernet adapter so that it is ready to receive these tickets. To do this:
- Select System Settings on the options menu.
- Once in the system settings, select Ethernet Configuration.
- Once in the Ethernet Configuration screen, make sure the Ethernet is turned on within the checkbox.
- From this point, you can select Ethernet Configuration to gain access to the Ethernet Options menu.
- From this menu, you can program the ethernet options such as IP address, DHCP/Static IP, netmask, gateway, etc.
Set Preferences
There are many custom options associated with the ChefTab software. All of these options have default settings, but there may need to be some changes. All of the options found in “Preferences” are categorized and come with a brief explanation on each screen.
For more detailed information about each available option, see the ChefTab KVS Preferences Overview.
Ticket Genie
Network printer data is pretty straightforward. You have the ability to change the look of your tickets for the ChefTab and also filter out unnecessary data. The Ticket Genie is a quick/easy tool for providing this functionality. This is not required for setup but will help format tickets in a way that will be easier to read.
This can be selected by going to the Menu > Launch Ticket Genie.
- The first time through you are going to want to select Capture a New Ticket.
- The system waits for any incoming tickets to format.
- On the POS, send a ticket with a variety of lines, such as items, modifiers, etc., to get a good sampling for the genie.
- Once received, the genie will jump to the Setup screen.
The Setup screen is a recreation of the ticket sent and allows you to provide a definition for each line. The definition dictates how the line displays on the ChefTab. Each line should be defined and each ticket should begin with a series of headers and end with footers. If a mistake is made, the Ticket Genie will let you know. By choosing each item, it prompts you to select a line type for that item.
When finished defining all of the lines, you can choose Exit and Save changes. The newly formatted ticket displays on the screen. If you would like to make changes to this, you can click the Ticket Genie option again. To edit the current ticket, select Modify Existing Ticket.
