Description: The integration of the PAX SP30 with Echo not only offers EMV functionality but also offers new ways for tipping on transactions. This article covers how to tender credit cards, debit cards, gift cards, and NFC with the SP30 device.
The tender types supported by the PAX SP30 are:
Credit Cards
This device allows the user to swipe, tap or dip their cards without the need for a PIN. Tipping has become much more convenient with the addition of tip functionality on the device itself.
There are several options available for tipping:
- In the Hardware Settings > Pin Pad Settings menu, make sure "Prompt For Tip On Device" is set to Yes. This will allow you to pick a tip option on the PAX device itself.
- Using the Sign-on Screen:
- Custom tip suggestions can be added to the device from Harbortouch
- You can set three standard suggestions as well as an option for a custom tip.
Note: These tips suggestions are not the same as the Suggested Tips in the General Settings. Suggested Tips in the General Settings are the tips on the receipt.
- You can set three standard suggestions as well as an option for a custom tip.
- Custom tip suggestions can be added to the device from Harbortouch
- As with the current card reader, you can also add a tip through the Adjust Tips screen at the End of Day.
Full and Partial refunds are available with limited use of the PAX device. A full refund is completed from the Complete Sales section of the Hold Screen. After selecting a Full Refund, the PAX will confirm if the card is present. Either answer will affect the refund process.
Partial refunds are completed a bit differently. From the Complete Sales section of the Hold Screen, select the transaction, then the Refund button. Select the Partial Refund option and select the item to refund. Once on the Payment Screen, tap on the payment itself in the Payment Summary. Select Refund and the PAX will confirm if the card is present. This can either be yes or no, but the device will still process the refund.
Debit Cards
As with credit cards, the user can swipe, tap or dip their cards. A PIN is required for the debit style of transaction. Another big difference between credit and debit is the tip option. With a debit transaction, tipping is only available at the time of the transaction. This removes the ability to add or modify the tip in the Adjust Tips screen. You must have "Prompt For Tip On Device" in the Pin Pad screen of the Hardware settings to activate this.
Debit cards also have differences in the refund process, as the card will need to be present for these transactions. The PAX will prompt for the PIN, then process the refund. Follow the same basic processes as with the credit card for both the full and partial refund.
Gift Cards
Loading and checking the balance of gift cards will still need to be completed on the MSR attached to the Echo system. Gift card payments can ONLY be completed on the SP30.
NFC
Tapping cards and phone applications are also available for use with the SP30 device. The user needs to hold the device or card near the PAX and it will start the process.
