Description: Learn how to set up and manage revenue classes on SkyTab POS and how these settings control the calculation of gratuities, item sales revenue, and reporting totals.
Note: You can also configure revenue classes on Lighthouse Business Manager (LBM). Visit Configure Revenue Classes on LBM for details.
Overview
SkyTab POS calculates gross and net sales based on each revenue class configuration rather than using a single global setting.
Revenue class settings determine:
- How gratuities are included in sales totals
- How item sales are classified in reports
- Accurate reporting for multi-location and international operations
Each revenue class defines whether associated sales and gratuities are included in revenue totals, providing more precise control over financial reporting.
How to Set Up Revenue Classes
- Log in to SkyTab POS.
- Navigate to Manager > Settings > Accounting > Revenue Classes.
- Select Add New Revenue Class or select an existing Revenue Class to edit.
- Configure the following settings:
- Name: Enter a descriptive name for the Revenue Class, such as Bar, Dining Room, or Online Orders.
- Assign Taxes: Assign the appropriate tax profile for this class.
- Enable/disable toggles for:
- Class is all alcohol
- Items count as non-sales revenue
- Do not apply discounts
- Select Save.
- Run a Sales Summary or Financial Overview report to verify that item revenue and gratuity totals reflect the correct configuration.
What Changed in Report Calculations?
- Inclusion of Gratuities in Net/Gross Sales
Before: Gratuities were not included in net/gross sales calculations in reports.
After: Gratuities are now included in net/gross sales, but only if they do not belong to a Revenue Class marked as “Non Sales Revenue”. - Exclusion of Non-Sales Revenue Items
Before: All items, surcharges were included in net/gross sales, regardless of their revenue class.
After: Any items, surcharges, or gratuities assigned to a Revenue Class with "Is Non Sales Revenue" set to true are excluded from net/gross sales. Non-sales revenue amounts are shown in a separate section in the Financial Overview report called "Non Sales Revenue".
