Description: Learn to control how default modifiers appear across POS screens, kitchen tickets, and receipts.
Note: This feature is currently available only for Pilot users.
SkyTab POS provides flexible settings to control how default modifiers are displayed (or hidden) during order entry and on output devices like kitchen printers and the Kitchen Display System (KDS).
Key Display Settings
Two settings determine how default modifiers behave:
- Display Default Modifiers: Shows or hides default modifiers on POS order screen, kitchen tickets, KDS, and Customer-Facing Displays (CFD).
-
Prefix default modifiers with NO if deselected: Shows removed default modifiers as “NO [modifier]” (e.g., NO Onion).
Common Display Configurations
Default Setup
(Display Default OFF, Prefix NO ON)
- Default modifiers are hidden unless removed.
- Removed modifiers display as “NO [modifier]."
Show Selected Only
(Display Default ON, Prefix NO OFF)
- Only selected modifiers appear.
- Removed default modifiers are omitted.
Show All With NO Indicators
(Display Default ON, Prefix NO ON)
- All default modifiers appear.
- Removed modifiers display as “NO [modifier]."
Important: If "Display Default Modifiers" is OFF, the NO prefix cannot be disabled.
Using Default Modifiers During Order Entry
When default modifiers are configured on an item:
- Add the item to the ticket.
- Default modifiers are automatically included.
- To remove a default modifier, deselect it.
Advanced Modifier Behavior
Pre-Modifiers
Pre-modifiers such as EXTRA or SIDE can be applied to default modifiers by selecting the pre-modifier first, then tapping the modifier. This works whether the default modifier is already selected or not.
Default modifiers with a pre-modifier attached will always display, regardless of whether "Display Default Modifiers" is enabled.
Example: Applying EXTRA to Bacon will display as EXTRA Bacon.
Quantity
- Default quantity is 1
- Increased quantity always displays
Additional Cost
Modifiers with added cost always display.
Kitchen and KDS Output
Kitchen tickets and KDS screens follow the same default modifier display rules as the POS order entry screen.
Example Kitchen Ticket with:
Display Default Modifiers = OFF
Prefix default modifiers with NO if deselected = ON
Example KDS Ticket with:
Display Default Modifiers = OFF
Prefix default modifiers with NO if deselected = ON
Receipt Printing Behavior
Receipt printers follow separate modifier print settings, including:
- Print Modifiers
- Print $0 Modifiers
- Print Modifier Prices
Default modifiers behave like standard modifiers in this context and will only print if these settings are enabled.
Example: If Print Modifiers is turned off, default modifiers will not appear on receipts, regardless of display settings, pre-modifiers, quantity, or additional cost.
Default modifier behavior may differ for online orders. For more details, visit the Default Modifiers Limitations and Online Ordering Behavior article.
