Setting up the RP-F10 Seiko Printer
-
Unbox the Seiko RP-F10 printer, examining the product for any visible damage.
- On the backside of the printer, locate the USB-B and Power receptacles.
- Connect the USB-B - USB-A cable to the POS Terminal.
- Connect the Power cable to an available outlet.
- The printer will power on, and add the provided paper roll to the printer according to the instructions on the printer lid.
Software Package Download
After connecting the printer to the terminal and powering it on, the printer should not be readily visible or identified. This can be confirmed within the Device Manager under Other Devices. If the below picture represents what is in the Device Manager, proceed.
Important: If it is visible as a normal device, all previous Seiko Drivers and Programs need to be uninstalled before progressing. Legacy software can interfere with the installation step.
It is necessary to download the appropriate software so that the Printer can be assigned to a Virtual Port from its current Serial Point assignment. Download the following Serial Port Driver version 1.12. Refer to the Seiko Printer Drivers download on the Resource Library under Print Drivers to download the file or download from here:
https://assets.shift4.com/wp-content/uploads/Downloads/Seiko-Printer-Drivers.zip
Then unzip/extract the folders and their contents.
Installing Seiko Printer Virtual Port Driver
- Navigate to the following directory “../Ver.1.12_HT”, based on where the Virtual Port Driver tool in the previous step was extracted.
- Start the “SetupIoUtility64_H_Custom.exe” application.
- The InstallShield Wizard will launch. Click the Next button.
- Read through the License Agreement for the printer, ensure that the intended end use of this product doesn’t fall outside the License Agreement, then select the “I Accept the terms in the license agreement” radio button and click Next. If you are unable to verify that the license agreement will not be violated, click Cancel and discuss it with your manager.
- The installation process will start automatically. After it completes, the following screen will be displayed.
- Click the Finish button.
Virtual Port Assignment
The printer is currently utilizing a USB Comm Port; however, we need it to communicate via Serial port. In order to accomplish this, we must run the Virtual Serial Port Driver program. It will now be located on the desktop after completing the Installing Seiko Printer Virtual Port Driver step.
- Locate and double-click the RP Communication Setting Utility application on the desktop.
-
In the Communication Settings Utility that pops up, select the radial button next to Virtual Serial Port Driver.
-
This will cause the Apply button to light up. Click the Apply button.
- This will cause the Driver type to change to Virtual Serial Port Driver.
- The Communications Setting Utility can now be closed.
-
To verify the printer is identified correctly, open the Device Manager by right-clicking the Start menu icon and clicking Device Manager.
- You will notice the Printers section is no longer visible - or in the case a different printer is connected, the SII RP-F10/G10 printer will no longer be listed.
- Instead, open the Ports section, and locate the SII Virtual Serial Port (in the example below, it is assigned to COM9) and its Com port assignment.
