Description: Share printers in QSR & Delivery for added printing convenience without modifying any group policies or security settings. Specifically, the following topics are covered:
Windows 10 Systems
Important: For Windows 10 systems, the following will need to be done before proceeding to the next section. If the system is not Windows 10, you can skip this and go to the next section.
- Go to Control Panel > Programs and Features. Select Turn Windows features on or off on the top left.
- Expand Print and Document Services, then place a check in the box to enable LPD Print Service and LPR Port Monitor. Next, select OK.
- Wait for Windows to install the files; once it is done, you can follow the rest of the instructions in this document.
Sharing a Printer
- On the POS with the printer you want to share (receiving POS), set up a Windows Printer with any name.
- This printer will need to have the same settings as the printer that is already set up.
- Important: Make a note of the name you give this printer; you will need it again.
- Next, on each POS system that will print to this printer, create a printer using the following steps:
- Add Printer.
- Add a Local Printer.
- Select Create a New Port and find LPR Port in the drop-down menu.
- In the window that pops up, enter the following information:
- First box: Name of the receiving POS
- Second Box: the EXACT name of the printer created in Step 1
- Select Next.
- Select the Manufacturer as Generic in the next window, then select the printer Generic / Text Only and select Next.
- Select Use the driver that is currently installed (Recommended) and select Next.
- Enter the EXACT printer name you entered for the printer created in Step One.
- Windows will take a moment to create the printer:
- When it finishes, it will prompt you to share the printer
- Select Do not share this printer (we do not use the normal Windows sharing setup in this process)
- Finally, Windows will ask you if you would like to set this printer as the default; select No and Finish.
- Repeat steps 2-7 on each POS that will be sending prints on the receiving POS.
- Once all of the Windows printers are set up, open the QSR application.
- Log in and navigate to Admin > Config Tools > Database Settings > Printers.
- Press Add New Printer and enter the name of the printer we created in step one on the receiving POS.
- Set the other settings to match the settings of the receipt printer (typically, the Type will be Thermal, and Chars p/Line will be 42).
- Assign items to this new printer as you would a Kitchen Printer.
- When complete, test the printer from each station to confirm it is working correctly.
