Description: Learn how to configure a single physical receipt printer so it can print both customer receipts and order tickets. While often referred to as a “Bar Printer,” this setup is commonly used across many service environments where only one printer is available, but dual-purpose printing is needed.
Preconditions:
- Receipt printer is already configured/working as expected. Printer is assigned to a station and is configured to print receipts.
- Note the model of the configured Receipt Printer (this will be used in the steps below)
Configure a second ticket printer pointing to the SAME physical Receipt Printer:
- Navigate to Manager > Settings > Hardware > Printers.
- Tap Add New Printer in the bottom left.
- At the ‘Add New Printer’ dialog:
- Name: Name the printer accordingly (Bar Printer at Station X)
- Connection Type: Set connection type to USB
- Printer Model: Select the Model as noted in the Preconditions
- Printer will be used for: Printing Tickets
- Assigned Station: Assign to the POS station where you would like the tickets to print
In the example below, we want to configure a Bar Printer to print tickets at Station 100:
- Tap Save.
- Select the newly created printer from the list of printers and tap Test Print.
- Confirm that a test slip was printed from the correct POS Receipt Printer. If not, adjust the ‘assigned station.’
- Add Items or Modifiers to the printer by touching the Tap to edit in the ‘Assigned Items’ box.
- Test the new printer.
Advanced Tip
Identify what jobs should be able to print to the ‘Bar Printer.’ Most commonly, a bartender should not be allowed to print to this printer. Adjust this as needed.
Go to Manager > Settings > Users > Jobs > Remote Printers.
An empty Remote Printers box means this job can print to ALL PRINTERS, including the newly created ‘Bar Printer.’
To restrict bartenders from printing to the ‘Bar Printer,’ ensure that printers they CAN/SHOULD print to are moved to ‘Allowed Printers.’ (Move all kitchen printers or RECEIPT PRINTERS to ‘Allowed').
