Universal Transaction Gateway 3200+ EMV Device Configuration Setup Changes

Description: Learn some of the differences between older Universal Transaction Gateways (UTGs) and UTG v3200 or higher.

If you’re working with a UTG that’s older than 3200 utilize Configure EMV Devices in Lighthouse Transaction Manager.

Within the UTG TuneUp there are differences:

Source Serial Now Empty

Important: This is not applicable (in TuneUp > Devices > Device) if your merchant account uses Moneris, Chase, Global, VisaACP, or Heartland.

Configured	A legacy Terminal Download will attempt to pull data from Lighthouse Transaction Manager (LTM) to generate 3 EMV files. (Still required for Moneris, Chase, Heartland, VisaACP, Global)	A Terminal Download will attempt to pull data from LTM to generate 3 EMV files. For additional information, visit Perform an EMV Terminal Download on Universal Transaction Gateway. (Required for all processors)
NOT Configured	Instead of doing a legacy Terminal Download from LTM, UTG will generate the 3 EMV files during UTG launch / restart based on the “EMV Settings” in TuneUp.	A proper legacy Terminal Download would fail and the 3 EMV files in C:\Shift4\EMV for the PIN pad would NOT appear fully or partially.

This feature is now considered legacy, unless your merchant account uses Moneris, Chase, Global, VisaACP, or Heartland processors.

UTG no longer looks at LTM > Settings > EMVDevices to generate the 3 EMV files needed to enable full EMV capabilities for a given PIN Pad.

Without “Source Serial”

Completely ignores what is in LTM > EMV Devices. API TIDs and PIN Pad serial numbers are now all handled by the UTG alone, and nothing in LTM should be adjusted or referenced.

“Pause” is no longer possible due to any misconfigurations made on LTM. Exceptions: the processor terminal is terminated or inactive, OR the UTG installation is corrupted or was installed without proper permissions.

PIN Pad settings that were in LTM (Pin Bypass, etc.) are now located in TuneUp > Devices > (deviceName) > EMVSettings. There, you must also make sure all the desired EMV AIDs are selected (otherwise, “Application Not Supported” error will be shown for UTGs below 3270 or swipe-only if UTG 3270 or above is installed).

Important: If you wish to not process EMV transactions, UTG 3270 will need to be installed and all EMV AIDs disabled.

“MID mismatch” is no longer possible as a PIN Pad is no longer attached to a TID in LTM > Settings > EMVDevices. One PIN Pad can be prompted by several different access tokens (MIDs) without any issues or adjustments. Routing funds from the PIN Pad to a specific MID is now purely done by the POS/PMS.

The only way to force the UTG to re-generate a PIN Pad’s configuration and the 3 EMV files is to restart the UTG, since Terminal Download (UTG > right-click > DeviceMaintenance > DownloadNow) is no longer functional.

With “Source Serial”

This must only be used if your merchant account uses Moneris, Chase, Global, VisaACP or Heartland processors, since they have unique information that must be downloaded using a legacy Terminal Download.

With “Source serial” configured, the PIN Pad will work exactly the same way as 3191 and earlier versions of UTG - a legacy Terminal Download will be attempted to download information from LTM.
