Power Saver and Sleep Mode Options in Windows

Description: Learn how to change the Power Save and Sleep Mode options on any Windows Operating System (OS) run computer or POS system if you have found that the Universal Transaction Gateway (UTG) or UTG STUB computer is entering a sleep mode state. You can disable the Power Save and Sleep Mode options to ensure uninterrupted processing.

Note: These steps apply to both an Agent's company computer (e.g., laptop) or a merchant's computer.

Windows 11

1. Open the Start menu and navigate to Settings.
   
2. From the Settings menu, select System.
3. Select Power & battery.
   
4. Select Screen, sleep, & hibernate timeouts.
5. Set the Sleep dropdown to "Never."
   

Windows 10 

1. Open the Start menu and navigate to Settings.
   
2. From the Settings menu, select System. 
   
3. Select Power and Sleep, then set the Sleep dropdown to "Never."
   

Older versions of Windows

1. Open the Start menu and navigate to the Control Panel.
2. Change the Category Viewing options to "Small Icons" if not already using this setting.
   • This is located at the top-right of the screen and gives access to all menu items.
3. Find and open the Power Options on this list (it should be alphabetical). This screen shows you one of three things selected:
   • Power Saver
   • Balanced (typically the default)
   • High Performance
4. On the highlighted selection, select the option of Change Plan Settings.
   
5. Set the Put the computer to sleep dropdown to "Never," then select Save Changes. This will ensure the computer will no longer go to sleep when inactive.
