Description: An Application Identifier (AID) is an identifier created from an amalgamation of two values used to identify the available applications on an EMV card or EMV terminal. The application determines what network the transaction processes through.

For additional information on where this applies to Universal Transaction Gateway (UTG) versions 3200+, please visit the UTG 3200+ EMV Device Configuration Setup Changes article.
AIDs (Card types) enabled in the device under EMV settings should be related to the card types the merchant can process in Citadel. Different brands have certain AIDs associated with them; below are the ones found in the UTG.
Refer to Card Type Explanations.
An AID is made up of an RID (Registered Application Provider identifier) and PIX (Proprietary Application Identifier Extension). The RID is the card brand (Visa, Mastercard, Discover, Amex, etc.), and the PIX is the card issuer (Bank of America, Wells Fargo, Chase, V Pay, Discover, Amex, etc.) This is who printed and configured the card and is usually the issuer (Example: The RID for Visa is "A000000003" and the PIX for V Pay is "2020". Making the AID value of "A0000000032020").
It is possible to have multiple AIDs loaded onto a card, which can be displayed on the PIN Pad for the cardholder to select during the transaction process. When using EMV, it is essential to understand that the cardholder will not simply have a credit and debit selection. They will be selecting from applications that are common to the card and the merchant terminal. This will often include a credit application and a debit application but could consist of multiple credit or debit applications.
With Shift4, merchants are configured by default to "Prefer US Common Debit." With this setting enabled in Lighthouse Transaction Manager (LTM) through EMV Devices, the US Common debit application will be selected by default if available on the card. If you want the cardholder to be allowed to select applications, you should disable this feature in LTM by selecting the desired Device ID.
