Description: A Terminal Download (or Download Now) may be required if a device needs to update its processing keys or device profiles for their EMV processing devices.
Note: The TID must match in Lighthouse Transaction Manager (LTM) and Universal Transaction Gateway (UTG) for the download to complete successfully and in the interface for processing. If any of these three do not match, the device will likely not respond properly. See Using EMV Devices with Shift4 for more information.
To perform a Terminal Download, perform one of the following:
Windows Command Prompt
If you are currently running the UTG as a service on the Server PC and you do not wish to interrupt processing to access the UTG Stand Alone for this update, you may perform the following:
- Open a Command Prompt.
- In the black command prompt window, type …\Shift4\EMV\EMVtrigger.exe apiterminalid.
- where "…" is the path where the Shift4 directory was installed
- apiterminalid is the Terminal ID configured in the UTG for that device
- Select Enter.
The Terminal ID can be obtained from the Interface Terminal with the assistance of the Interface vendor, or this can be obtained from the UTG TuneUp under the device thread for the terminal. This, however, defeats the purpose of not halting UTG operations.
UTG (v2) Stand Alone: Device Maintenance
Note: For UTG version 3200 and above, Terminal Download should not be attempted and is now considered legacy. The exception is if the merchant account uses Moneris, Chase, Global, or Heartland processors.
UTG no longer references LTM > Settings > EMVDevices to generate the three EMV files needed to enable full EMV capabilities for a given PIN pad.
If TuneUp > Devices > (deviceName) > Source serial is empty, instead of using a legacy Terminal Download from LTM, UTG generates the three EMV files during UTG launch/restart based on the settings configured in TuneUp > Devices > (deviceName) > EMVSettings. However, if Source serial is configured, a legacy Terminal Download will attempt to pull data from LTM to generate the three EMV files, which are still required for Moneris, Chase, or Heartland processors.
To perform a terminal download:
- Stop the UTG Service.
- Start the UTG Stand Alone.
- Right-click anywhere in the Stand Alone and select Device Maintenance.
- Select the box for any terminals that need to be updated; generally, it's best to simply select Select All to update all terminals.
- Select Download Now.
- The device will reboot automatically after the download has been completed.
- Stop the Stand Alone.
- Start the service.
