Prerequisites
Before starting, verify the following:
- Access to EMC.
- Permissions to view Menu Item Maintenance.
- A PDF printer is installed on the workstation (such as Microsoft Print to PDF or Adobe PDF).
- Microsoft Excel is installed.
Important: Large menu databases may create very large PDF files during export.
Export Menu Items from EMC
Open Menu Item Maintenance
- Log in to EMC.
- Navigate to Menu Item Maintenance at the appropriate hierarchy level.
- Select Search to display current menu items.
- Choose Export Type:
- Export Menu Items Only. Remain on the default Master Records tab.
- Export Menu Items with Prices. Select the Price Records tab at the bottom of the screen.
- Select File.
- Select Print Preview.
- If exporting all records, choose Entire Table.
- Select OK.
- Select Page Setup.
- Change orientation to Landscape.
Note: Landscape orientation allows more columns to fit on each page. - Select Print.
- Choose your PDF printer.
- Save the file to an accessible folder.
Identify Relevant Pages
The initial PDF often contains unnecessary columns. Review the PDF and locate pages containing:
- Menu item numbers
- Definition names
- Price data
Exclude pages containing unnecessary detail.
- Right-click the PDF.
- Select Open with > Google Chrome.
- Select the Print icon.
- Under Pages, choose Custom.
- Enter only the required page numbers.
- Save as a new PDF.
- Open the filtered PDF in Adobe Acrobat or another PDF conversion tool.
- Select Convert.
- Choose Microsoft Excel.
- Open Settings.
- Enable Create Single Worksheet for the Document.
- Select Convert to XLSX.
Review the Spreadsheet
Open the new Excel file and verify:
- Menu item numbers are aligned
- Names are readable
- Prices match expected values
- Blank columns are removed if needed
Troubleshooting
PDF Is Too Large
Reprint only the required pages before converting.
Columns Are Misaligned in Excel
Use Text to Columns, manual cleanup, or remove extra PDF pages first.
Prices Missing
Verify the Price Records tab was selected before printing.
