Description: Locate the Universal Transaction Gateway (UTG) TuneUp tool to easily configure UTG settings -- including interface and external device settings, communicate with Shift4 data centers, and select advanced parameters.
Important: You will need to shut down any instance of the Universal Transaction Gateway before opening the UTG TuneUp. Stopping the Universal Transaction Gateway (UTG) service or Stand Alone will stop all active credit card processing until it is restarted.
Accessing UTG TuneUp
To access the UTG TuneUp:
- Windows 10: Go to Start > Shift4 Payments (or Corporation) > UTG TuneUp.
- Windows 7/8: Go to Start > All Apps > Shift4 Payments > UTG TuneUp.
For Legacy Directories:
- Start > Programs > Shift4 Corporation > Universal Transaction Gateway > UTG TuneUp
- Start > Programs > $$$ ON THE NET > UTG TuneUp
If the UTG TuneUp is missing from the Windows Start Menu, you can create a new TuneUp shortcut by performing the following:
- Navigate to the Shift4 installation directory (default location is C:\Shift4\UTG2).
- The location can vary depending on the installation.
- The location can vary depending on the installation.
- Locate the UTG2 (may end with a ".exe" file extension) file and right-click to select Create Shortcut.
- On the file that says "Shortcut to UTG2", right-click the file and go to Properties.
- On the Shortcut tab, go to the entry that states Target and add a space then -t to the end of the target path.
- EX: C:\shift4\utg2\utg2.exe -t
- EX: C:\shift4\utg2\utg2.exe -t
- Select OK.
- Right-click on Shortcut to UTG2 and select Rename, then rename the file to UTG TuneUp.
At this point, we recommend moving the shortcut to the Start menu or desktop for easier access, but you can also leave it in this folder if you want.
