General Guidelines & Important Information
If the QSR system you are working on has groups created already, then you can skip this section. Some simple guidelines include the following:
- Groups generally follow the naming of the screen categories.
- Do not go over 40 groups; if you have this many groups, you must rethink your strategy for menu programming.
Creating a New Item Group
- To begin, log in to the system and select Admin > Config Tools > Database Settings.
- Under Database Settings, find and select the Groups tab.
- Then, select Add New Group.
- QSR requires you to enter an ID number when creating a new group. By default, QSR has certain default groups created. For example, group ID 69 is a group for navigation buttons, and ID 99 is a group used for modifiers. The screenshot below shows you that ID number 43 is a group for coupons. ID numbers need to be unique. The system alerts you if you try to enter an ID that already exists. In the screenshot below, we entered ID number 1.
- Next, select the Complete button.
We are naming this group Cheese Pizza. When creating a menu item, you are required to link the menu item to a group. So the groups must be created in the system before creating a menu item. We will link all cheese pizzas to the cheese pizza group. All salad menu items link to the salad group and so on. Next, select the Complete button.
Repeat this process until all our groups are completed.
Assign an Item Group to a Menu Item
Under the item, there must be a “Group” assigned. You can do this by logging in to the system, navigating to Admin > Config Tools > Menu, selecting the desired item, and adding the item group.
The screenshot below shows how to assign the item group to an item itself. Because the printers can only print by item group, an item’s setup is required for it to print correctly.
For more information on assigning the Item Group to a Printer for printing, visit the Set Up Where an Item Prints article.
