Description: Use Database Settings in QSR & Delivery to adjust many different options regarding the system database. Learn about the various settings below.
You can access these settings by logging in to the system and navigating to Admin > Config Tools > Database Settings.
Row 1 Headers
The top-most row of tabs within database settings. The tabs hosted within are elaborated on below.
Cash Drawers
Here, you can add Cash Drawers to your database that you will use to settle the drawers. You should only have as many cash drawers listed here as you have on your account; otherwise, there will be an excess and cause confusion. Generally, it is one per system, but you may want to refer to the Cash Drawer Overview article.
City, State, Zip
You can add the pre-programmed City, State, and ZIP code combinations used when adding Customers to the database. Adding all of the relevant information here will significantly reduce the order-taking processing when adding a customer’s address to their profile. There is no limit on how many may be added, so add as many ZIP codes that you deliver to.
Where are the City, State, ZIP used in the QSR Software?
The City, State & ZIP are used when adding a Customer’s address to their profile. When you have the Customer Edit screen pulled up, click your cursor in the “City” field to automatically populate the programmed City, State, and ZIP combinations. An example of this is shown below:
Job Desc
Here, you can add and edit the Job titles to be assigned to employees. The system comes pre-configured with the jobs shown in the screenshot below, but you may add your own jobs as you like.
Service Types
Here, you can add, edit, or change the Service Type settings. The system comes with eight pre-programmed Service Types starting from 0 and ending in 7. In this section, you can set a Service Type’s ability to “Pay” and/or “Send” the order, restricting which function is available per service type. Additionally, you may configure the colors associated with each service type's background and foreground (front) if desired.
For more information regarding service types, visit the Service Types Overview article.
Sister Stores
This section of the software is not used by Shift4 or Shift4 customers. Do not change anything or use this section.
Email Defaults
Here, you can add, edit or adjust the email defaults. These are put here to save time when typing in an email address. Type the @ symbol while typing in an email-enabled field. You may add any @domain.com you wish to make typing an email easier. There is no limit to how many may be added.
Row 2 Headers
The middle row of tabs within database settings. The tabs hosted within are elaborated on below.
Activity Log
This section shows all logged activity within the database. There is no time constraint on the data showing up here, and this tends to be a massive log compiled over time, so this screen can take a few minutes to render, depending on how large the database has grown. You can use this to review activity that has happened within your POS system, albeit not all activity is logged in general.
Tax Profiles
Here, you can add, edit or adjust the Tax profiles within your database. Taxes are applied to items to charge the appropriate tax amounts. QSR does not support Hidden Taxes but does support compounded taxes.
Tech Staff
This section was designed originally to control data for something like the QSRTech user but was never developed to hold any data. Therefore, this section is not used or necessary to touch.
Support Categories
This section is not used by Shift4 or Shift4 merchants and is blank by default. You will never see anything in this section and should not need to change anything here either. High-level QSR SMEs have used this section for a specific reason, but only under infrequent circumstances.
Application Categories
This section is developed only on a need-by-need basis, and no one other than a high-level SME should be changing anything within this area. Nothing is showing in this section by default. High-level QSR SMEs have used this section for a specific reason, but only under infrequent circumstances.

Row 3 Headers
The bottom row of tabs within database settings. The tabs hosted within are elaborated on below.
Zones
Here, you can configure the Delivery Zones, their charges, and driver reimbursement settings. Delivery Zones are used for charging a delivery fee to a customer based on the settings, and they also determine how much the reimbursement to the driver will be.
For more information on delivery zones, visit the QSR: Setting Up Delivery Zones article.
Area Codes
Here, you can configure the Area Codes used for quick phone number entry. This can be helpful when adding a new customer from a common Area Code so that you may use the quick buttons generated from the area codes programmed here.
Where are Area Codes used in the QSR Software?
After you configure the Area Codes for the phone numbers that call in most often, you can see these quick settings appear underneath the “Phone” button accessed from the QSR Main screen. An example of programmed Area Codes is shown below:
Printers
Here, you can configure all of the printers you will be using within the QSR software (i.e., Receipt printers, Remote printers, Video displays, and Label printers). In this section, you can effectively “adopt” a printer name into the software to be used.
For more information on setting up printers within QSR, visit the following articles:
System Messages
Shift4 or Shift4 merchants do not use this section. This section is blank by default and has no functionality within our software.
Payouts
Here, you can add, edit or modify Pay-In or Pay-Out reasons (also called Cash In and Cash-Out). The system comes pre-programmed with the following, shown in the screenshot below, but you have the freedom to change this list as you see fit. The attribute is used to define whether the reason is a Pay In or Pay Out, or both:
- Leave Blank: Leaving the attribute blank will make the reason both a Pay In and a Pay Out.
- PayIn: Setting the attribute to “PayIn” defines the reason as a Pay In reason only.
- PayOut: Setting the attribute to “PayOut” defines the reason as a Pay In reason only.
Voids
Here, you may add, edit or modify the Void reasons. The system comes pre-programmed with some basic reasons, but you may change these as you see fit. There is also an option to require the user to enter details when selecting a Void reason.
Sales Categories
Sales Categories are the same thing as a “Revenue Class” in Hospitality. The system comes pre-configured with the following categories, but you may customize this list to fit your business needs best. There is no limit to how many you may add, but you want to avoid excessive categories as it is meant for a higher-level grouping.
For more information on creating or editing sales categories, visit the QSR: Sales Categories article.
Groups
Groups are the same thing as “Item Groups” in Hospitality. The system comes pre-configured with some basic groups, and the programming team adds the necessary groups during the menu-building process. However, you may add, edit or modify this list to best fit your business needs.
For more information in creating or editing item groups, visit the QSR: Item Groups article.
