Service Types in Database Settings
QSR & Delivery uses Service Types to designate the type of order. The system comes pre-configured with 8 service types by default, starting at 0 and ending in 7. You can add additional service types or customize the pre-existing ones.
You can find Service Types information found by logging into the system with QSRTech credentials and navigating to Admin > Config Tools > Database Settings > Service Types.
Service Type Breakdown & Explanation
Database settings allow you to change or customize the pre-configured QSR Service Types; you may also add your own Custom Service Types. The eight Service Types that come pre-configured are:
- 0 = Bar Service
- 1 = Delivery
- 2 = Carryout
- 3 = Pickup
- 4 = Quick Table
- 5 = Drive Thru
- 6 = Table Service
- 7 = Catering
Renaming the Pre-Configured Service Types
Under the Database Settings, you can change the names of these Service Types in case you would like to adjust the way they appear on the POS.
For example, you may want a “For Here” and “To Go” service type. In this case, you would change the name of “Quick Table” to “For Here” and change the name of “Carryout” to “To Go.”
Important Information Regarding Renaming Pre-configured Service Types
The following Service Types are configured through the system with a certain type of functionality and should not be reused if at all possible:
- 0 = Bar Service: Set up to use the “Bar” button on the main screen, with a layout and Server Summary reports
- Because this Service Type (“0”) is linked to a button on the main screen, its functionality and use is limited to and controlled by the use of the “Bar” button
- Renaming this Service Type does not rename the button displayed on the main QSR screen, therefore causing inconsistencies
- Attempting to use this button for anything other than Bar Service may result in QSR "Unhandled Exception Application Errors."
- 1 = Delivery: This should technically just be used for Delivery sales; uses the Driver Summary reports
- 6 = Table Service: Set up to use the “Tables” button on the main screen, with a layout and Server Summary reports
- Because this Service Type (“6”) is linked to a button on the main screen, its functionality and use is limited to and controlled by the use of the “Tables” button
- Renaming this Service Type does not rename the button displayed on the main QSR screen, therefore causing inconsistencies
- Attempting to use this button for anything other than Bar Service may result in QSR "Unhandled Exception Application Errors"
It is safe to rename and reuse all of the others, assuming you will be using Delivery for delivery orders.
- 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7 are all safe to reuse/rename
Tip: Most users do not like to have both "Pickup" and "Carryout" selected. We recommend using either one of those, not both.
Explanation of Send / Pay / VDU Priority Column Headers
Allow Send: This allows you to enter an order under a Service Type, and when pressing Send, the service type shows in that list. If you set the Service Type to "0”, it does not appear in the Send list.
Allow Pay: This allows you to enter an order under a Service Type and choose the Pay button to complete the sale. If you set the Service Type here to “0”, you can not pay for the order until it has been recalled through the Checks screen.
VDU Priority: (not used often) This setting is related to the priority of the Service Type on the Kitchen Display. The options can be set to 1, 2, 3, or 4.
Service Types in System Settings
To select your system-wide Service Types:
- Log in to the system with QSRTech credentials.
- Navigate to Admin > Config Tools > System + Station Settings.
- Under the Orders line item, select Active Service Types.
- Under System Settings, declare which Service Types you would like to use system-wide across all terminals. This is important because they must be set as active here in order for them to be usable on any terminal.
Showing Certain Service Types on Certain Stations
You may only want one Service Type active on one station only while being disabled across all of the others. The best example is Service Type #5, “Drive Thru.” You may have four terminals, but only one of them is your Drive Thru terminal, and therefore, you only want that terminal to have that Service Type active. You will need to ensure the System Settings allow for this Service Type to be active, or else it will not function on any of the terminals.
Service Types in Station Settings
To select your station Service Types:
- Log in to the system with QSRTech credentials.
- Navigating to Admin > Config Tools > System + Station Settings > Station Settings.
- Select the station you would like to configure the service types on.
Active Service Types per Station
A Station may be configured to work completely differently than another one by telling that specific station which Service Types are usable at it. Most times, they are the same across all systems, but if you do not want that, you can do this with Station Settings.
Once you’ve selected the Station you need to set the Service Types for, scroll about halfway down the page to where it asks for the 'Active Service Types.' Set the values corresponding to the numbers of the Service Types you want that station to be able to use. Remember to ensure all Stations have been set correctly since each station can technically be set to use different Service Types.
Default Service Types per Station
Important: It is important that this setting is checked for accuracy because if you make adjustments to the active Service Types, this may need to be altered.
This is another setting that is defined per terminal (or “Station”). As we discussed, the Stations can be set up to function with different service types (not common, but they can), and therefore, you may want a different default Service Type for that station whenever an order is placed. This setting can be found near the top of the Station Settings and will only be one single number referring to the Service Type.
Adding a Custom Service Type
To add your own custom Service Types:
- Log in to the system.
- Navigate to Admin > Config Tools > Database Settings.
- Click Service Types.
- Press the Add New Service Type button.
Important: Any new Service Types will NOT appear on the main Checks screen. Even if you disabled the pre-configured one, the software is not designed to show any Customer Service Types on the left side, like it does the pre-configured ones. You need to use the All button under Checks to find orders sent using a Custom Service Type. For this reason, it is recommended to use the pre-configured Service Types instead and rename them.
