Multi-Location Management
Default Order Type for Table Sections allows managers to assign a default order type (such as To-Go or Dine-In) to specific table sections, so the correct order type is automatically selected when a new ticket is opened — reducing manual steps and the risk of orders being entered under the wrong type.
Group Combo Items Setting: Merchants can now control whether combo items display as a grouped header on kitchen tickets/Kitchen Display System (KDS) or break out as individual items. Configurable in Shift4 Dine Customer Hub Location Management. Grouped display remains the default.
Set a Default Menu Type for a Terminal lets you pin a default menu view — Departments, Groups, or Favorites — to a specific terminal so the order entry screen always opens in the right view for that station.
Display Groups with no available items are now hidden automatically on Shift4 Dine (Handheld, Workstation, and Tablet). A group is hidden when it has no items assigned or all its items are unavailable; parent groups stay visible if any child group still has an available item. No Customer Hub setup required.
Payments & Receipts
Legal Address on Receipts updates printed receipts to display the merchant's legal name and legal address instead of the DBA name and address, ensuring receipts meet compliance requirements — particularly relevant for international merchants.
Customer-facing Display Tip Screen eliminates the brief interim screen on the Customer-facing Display that previously showed the pre-tip total after a guest selected their tip amount, removing a source of guest confusion during the payment flow.
Pre-Auth Closure on Customer-facing Display extends the existing Customer Display checkout flow to support closing pre-authorized tabs. The bartender sends a pre-auth ticket to the Customer Display; the guest selects a tip, confirms, and gets a receipt; payment auto-captures. No new screens are involved.
E-Gift Card Scanning on Handheld enables servers to scan E-Gift card QR codes and barcodes directly from the Handheld, allowing gift card payments to be completed tableside without manually keying in card numbers at a fixed terminal.
Bug Fixes
Fixed an issue where discounts configured with order type restrictions were not being enforced when items were moved, split, or combined in the Manage Tickets screen, allowing restricted discounts to carry over to tickets with ineligible order types.
Fixed an issue where required nested modifier sets would collapse when a staff member navigated away from the modifier screen (e.g. to apply a discount, change coursing, or view a special request) and then returned, making it unclear that a required selection was still outstanding.
Fixed an issue where the refund screen displayed an incorrect tax amount on tickets that included a gratuity with an assigned tax, causing the tax to appear inflated when processing a refund.
Fixed an issue where the app could crash after viewing a required modifier set on one ticket and then quickly starting a new ticket from the Table screen.
